I joined one whose name is very similar to the name here. I joined before they started charging a fee. I rarely ever visit there anymore because it is not worth a dollar a day to see posts scroll off the page when you hit re-fresh. Far too big of a forum for my taste. All others I have joined have come with an invite except for the fishing forum I joined.

I should say however that knowing someone isn't a consideration as to whether I join a message board.

One of my friend's invited me to his forum that isn't around anymore and all the other ones I found just looking around. I don't go to forums alot. I've been here for a few days cuz I'm pretty much alone when I get home unless I go hang out with someone

As for me? Usually I know people--I'm generally not one to go off on my own. Although one of the very first forums I was ever one I did join and knew absolutely nobody. Ended up meeting some great people though.

most of the forums i have i knew no one there, and i have no problem, i read for few seconds a little and if i like what i see i join... now if i stay or not for long depands how will go lol
