Don't know if this the right place to put this thread but anyway...has it, no matter how small or large?
Personally I would say it has slightly for me in two ways.
Firstly regarding gun laws. I've always been deeply opposed to guns being legal but I've started to understand the differences more in British and USA cultures about this. While I think still a complete ban on handguns for public use is ideal I am starting to understand more American culture ect on this and don't think that would work outright and now I am not so hostile to people owning guns but with stricter laws on it and by law kept very secure. I'd mostly like to thank Tim for changing my opinion somewhat on this.
Secondly, I'm not quite so hostile to the theory of evolution as I used to be. I still believe it's a theory but one which isn't any less plausible that God and creation, I have an open mind on this one. I'd like to thank AEF for changing my opinion slightly on that one.

So there you have it, anyone else like to share any changed, however small, opinions they have because of people here on Offtopicz?:)

two things really

i imagined that all americans supported and were totally obsessed with the war in iraq,i discover that they do not,all else fails always posts such jems especially about these things that im really gettintg to like him a lot.
as far as the gung ho brigade go ,ive learned that their opinions ,those especially from ron and uncle bacon, who have experience of the issues are always heart felt and sincere, and often give me insight into the situation and an appreciation of their view.

the christians.i also believed that american christians were the bible belt fundamental looneys we hear about here.all the christians on this forum are realistic ,sincere, and do not shove their beliefs down anyones throats.there are things which i believe ie about the death penalty which are partly governed by my faith(the rest from my naturally left wing socialist views)which grace has given me insight into and relevant information.

although it would be difficult to change views ion many subjects i have gained and clear understanding of all our cultural differences and see why different people have the views which they do

I'm a christian, and I don't consider myself looney (in that repsect). :p
Ditto.

---

I come on here to be in relationship with other people and shoot the breeze between subjects/homework assignments.

I don't come on here to form my values, morals, or the way I think, etc. I go to school for knowledge, to God for wisdom and spirituality, and to OTZ for friendly discussion and a break. :p

I really would have to KNOW someone for them to truly 'speak' into my life. I mean I am not going to go off of some person's post that I don't even know in forming my opinions on something.

That being said, since I have been here, Intruder and Boomer have actually intersected my life in meaningful ways. They have truly taken the time to 'know my heart' and I can see them speaking into my life.

I've reached out to quite a few people on this site and I look forward to having meaningful friendships with them as well. It all just takes time in getting to know one another. It is the 'being in relationship' that makes a difference because it makes one more apt to listen because a bond of trust has been formed.

Anywho ... that's my 2 cents.

hmm there are quiet a few things that have affected my opinions on here. It helps to be able to see things from a different perspective.

One of the main things...and though I should probably keep this till I know you guys in real life...but most of the men on otz...have given me a different view about men in general. They actually show they care...and show they can listen and remember :p if thats anything :D

I'm way too stubborn for that to happen. It has enlightened me to the other (dumber) viewpoint on things, but it hasn't changed my mind :D

I wouldn't say it's changed the way I feel about anything, but all of you have really given me a better perspective of many things, and for that I want to say thank you.

Well it's changed my opinion of message boards in a way. I had been a regular member of one for about 2-3 years previous which eventually got overrun by career trolls for lack of responsible monitoring and behavior. By then having determined it was a waste of my time I had decided to call it a day and had no intentions of joining another one.

It was only when another friend suggested why not check out other forums I thought well ok why not. Still then I wasn't really too interested to do so but decided to check anyways, even if it was just to say I did.

Well, after I did a search Offtopicz was one of those on the 1st page I think so I checked it out, liked the look and feel of the layout, saw some interesting sections/topics and monitored it for a while. I recall seeing some interesting posts on Relationships and Family and that intrigued me. I noticed a good rapport by the members and soon enough I was thinking to myself hey I like the vibes on this forum. I could dig this. Well, the next thing was I decided to jump in and wet my feet and never looked back.

Can't say I've regretted it and look forward to keeping in touch. So it's changed my opinion on that and showed how a well run message board can work with a diverse mix of people and personalities from around the world exchanging ideas and opinions whether agreeing or disagreeing and the general sense of caring and concern amongst its members. Like any family, we have our little spats but it's all good and hardly anyone stays vexed for long, at least that's my take on it.

Well, that's my two cents.

Peter, I have now just stickied this thread, because this is one of the best threads I have seen and this is a major part of a lot of members' lives, including mine. Thank you for this. :)

Has it changed my views on anything? No, but I'm a fairly stubborn SOB to begin with. I do like interacting with about 90% of the people on here...it's opened my eyes, but hasn't changed my opinions.

And I do think that some of the "bible belt/bible thumpers" are looney. mostly because they have a bad habit of interpreting the bible to make it fit their lives...but that's for another thread.

One thing I've learned from offtopicz about opinions is, not to voice mine if its something I actually care about. To keep it under my hat.

One thing I admire about this forum, is the huge heart it has for its members. And the seeming ability for all of us to respectfully dis-agree with each other and let by-gones be by-gones.

I simply love the spirit of this forums various personalities.

Not sure if that helps, or is a good addition to what has already been said.

And yes, to some degree it has helped with my ability to look at different angles of things, and grow new respect for opinions that do not match mine, because it is hard to take personal what is not face to face.
