I feel like the 90's was a great time for cartoons. Nickelodeon started to create iconic characters and had interesting cartoonists spitting out a few favourites. Fox Kids was at the top of its game with so many I cannot even name them all. From Biker Mice from Mars to Street Sharks to Ninja Turtles you had the craziest concepts a child could dream of.

So, what do you feel is the greatest 90's cartoon of all time? Clearly, this is a case by case basis sort of thing because everything touches someones heart differently. Especially in a nostalgic light. I would have to choose Batman: The Animated Series for so many reason.

I will agree that Batman the animated series was the best. I liked watching it on fox and I remember when it first came on. I was a fan and watched every episode until they stopped showing it. I was not a fan when WB took up the show. I hated how they changed it, but when fox showed it I loved it.

Batman: TAS. Nothing even comes close. It has the best Batman in it and the second best Joker (after Heath Ledger of course). The show was something I loved as a kid and on a rewatch it has enough maturity to hold up for adult viewing as well.

Batman the animated series was a great cartoon, but not the best for me. My favourite was visionairies - knights of the magical light. I cant believe they only made one season! My other favourites are the original x-men & spiderman tv series.

I agree entirely with X-Men. I do not know what it was that was going on in the 90's but so many of the cartoons had a soap opera type feel to them and this had to have been one of the worst offenders. From having a long lost brother appear to someone dying and them returning to the whole Wolverine/Jean Grey will they/won't they. Spider-man was similar in that way. Beast Wars had that feel at times. Batman, of course. Have to admit the comic storylines they followed or adapted helped in that.

Batman: TAS is definitely up there (and I would add that the Joker in that is second to none - Heath Ledger clearly took a lot from it), but for me, the best animated show from the 90's will always be The Simpsons (even though it debuted two weeks before 1990). It was just so different from everything on at the time - I was at an age when weekend morning cartoons weren't doing it for me anymore, but wasn't quite ready to step up to regular live action shows. The Simpsons just bridged that gap perfectly, providing a little more adult content in an animated easy to absorve package. It's not strange that it became such a landmark when many other shows were forgotten.

To me the best 90s cartoon was Hey Arnold! I loved everything about that show: the characters, the dialogue, the subtle humor. It had great moral lessons in every episode and had a great impact on me as a child. Even today if I find an episode of that show on YouTube or some other video streaming site, I watch it. Gives me that nostalgic feeling and to be honest, the show is still quite relevant despite being more than 1 years old now.

I grew up in the late 70's/early 80's, so by the time the 90's rolled around I was all but done watching cartoons. However the one show I did love was the Ren & Stimpy show. It was short lived, but had me cracking up week after week.

I never liked Batman cartoons because I grew up with the Batman TV series that were mostly a thing of fun, not a dark individual, as opposed to the Spiderman of the 90s which was cheerful compared with the previous shady character that liked me more.

However my very favorite cartoon in the 90s were the Mutant Teenage Ninja Turtles and the X-Men.

One animated series that doesn't get a lot of of love, but which I simply adored, was Beetlejuice! Lydia Deetz might just have been one of my first crushes. The only setting of Neitherworld was amazing to watch, and, of course, the title character was hillarious, albeit a bit gross at times.

I was a huge "Pokemon" fan, although the original US series aired in the late nineties. I also remember watching "Doug", "Recess", "Hey Anorld" and "Cardcaptor Sakura". Now I've got the "Cardcaptor Sakura" theme song in my head ha ha.
