Well the first thing you should've done a while ago, if you haven't already, was to switch to another browser other than Internet Explorer. IE works like this: point your mouse cursor on a link, VIRUS; click on a picture, VIRUS; log-in to your favorite web site, VIRUS; open up your e-mail client to e-mail someone, VIRUS; download a what seems to be "Safe file", VIRUS. And Mozilla Firefox (recommended by everyone) is like: OMFG, VIRUS - KILL KILL KILL KILL!!!

Also, get an anti-virus program... you can get around getting a "free" one if you know how to crack programs and an ad-removal program like AdAware (free), then you're all set.

See, before I've done all that - I had to reinstall my Windows XP like 5 times a year. It would fuck up SO often with IE, I'd be ready to destroy my computer. IE is just very unsecure - it has 0 privacy. It permits pretty much ANYTHING, including malcious informaton such as viruses.

Ok don't let me go on about this forever - I do it all the time because the makers of XP's "brilliant" programs seemed to have done it with their hands up their asses or something.

So here's a list of recommended software:

Browsers: Mozilla Firefox; Opera
Adware removal software: AdAware
Anti-Virus software: Kaspersky (not free anymore, but you can get around it)

It's too insecure, it doesn't ask you anything... it just does everything. Like: "Oh look, a virus - I think I'll allow it and let it spread through the entire Windows network!"

Well that's obviously because you, I'm assuming here, have Norton Anti-Virus. That thing works perfectly for IE as long as you constantly update it. Well guess what happened to my Norton AV? One day, it just STOPPED WORKING. It did not say anything, did not show anything - it just ceased functions. As in it wasn't protecting my computer, it refused to scan my computer and basically - none of the functions in its menu worked at all. That's a great program if you ask me, one that randomly stops working! You have no idea how fucked up my computer became after that, and that's when I was still using IE.

if you do end up using adaware or spybot to clean malware from your computer, atleast do the scanning in safemode otherwise you are just spinning your wheels. if you are not running virus protection and are using a microsoft based o/s good chances are that you already have some sort of malware or virus already present on your computer if it is connected to the internet.
