You avoid being the target of gossip by not gossiping. No, seriously. Am I the target of gossip? Maybe, but I don't give a hoot because I don't gossip with those people, so it never gets back to me, and if it does, what do I care? Should I bet upset because some boo-birds think something about me? It's not even worth my time to correct them.

Ask Clare, I am about as anti-gossip/drama as they come. I will crack skulls if someones gossiping is causing drama in my life.

No, just ignore them. Gossip always turns on the gossiper eventually. If you have a real problem with it, you go to your HR department and file a report of slander. Light, playful gossiping is one thing, but if someone is spreading false rumors about you, that is a fire able offense at most companies. It tends to fall under the harassment rules.

Tread very lightly though. Do everything through the proper channels. If they are gossiping about you, it means they may try and "get you", meaning you need to be careful what you say and/or do to them directly. If another co-worker happens to mention the gossip to you, simply refute the gossip based on facts, but refrain from saying anything negative or derogatory about the gossipers. Keep the morale high ground so that if an office politics show down does occur, you are in the clear.

I've had to navigate an issue like that before, and through careful maneuvering I was able to get the person written up, keep my nose clean and stop the issue without too much trouble.

They must be jealous of the new girl so they gotta make up something to try to make you look bad. Thats not fair at all. I dont see what they would have to gossip about. You are a very sweet person and Ive never heard you say one bad thing about anyone.

I do the same thing sometimes. I will hole in for a while and shut my social life off like a switch. Its good for the mind.

Ive worked with most of these people before. So they all know me and remember me.. But Ive never did anything that bad.. So, I dont understand.

Yep, I guess social life will be shut out for a while...
