Religion has its pro's and con's.

Large scale religious organizations definitely have a greed for both power and money. Small churches, synagogues, mosques and so on ... seem to offer a positive role by having a "community" feeling and they do offer charitable services.

Anything that is touched by man is corruptible.

I've been looking for God for quite a while now. I assume he/she remains hidden because it does not want me to see or know too much. If I have to start using my imagination, there is a definite problem with the premise. Maybe the idea is to focus on living my life in moral manner and not worry about locating God. :)

Sometimes I wonder if that is what is "intended" to begin with. :)

Not that I know anything, but I've said for a long time if this life has a purpose it is to improve one's self. I'm Agnostic btw. :) The Shelia Browne book I'm reading, although she is brought under high skeptical suspicion and accused of being a predatory fraud, says basically the same thing, that overcoming obstacles to better one's self is the purpose of life, straight from the mouth of her spiritual guide. ;) Does this mean I believe everything she says? Well no, but that certainly got my attention. :)

Agreed.

Interesting ... and it makes sense to me. Sounds like it would be an interesting read.

This is probably going to come out sounding very Zen, but that's OK. I think if you look for God you won't find it. You can only experience it or not. I don't really think there is a set purpose for us. I do think that the purposes we set for ourselves differ greatly if tuned in to it or not.

I got the name wrong, it's Sylvia Browne. :)

Ah! Okay ... no wonder I was having a hard time finding it. LOL

Sylvia Browne ... I have a hard time with her ever since seeing her on Montel Williams ... over and over again. I'm sure she probably has a valuable and interesting opinion none-the-less.

I'll just reemphasize that when you google her name, you'll see pages of negative threads about her. Apparently she told one family their son was dead, however later it turned out she was wrong. Apparently she has a bad track record at predictions. I just want to make it clear, I'm not a believer, but someone who is considering what she promotes, which is her knowledge of the other side.

That said Sylvia Browne looked at my friend, who was allowed one question, had never met her before and told her the name of her Grand Father (assumed to have passed) who no one in the family will talk about. Of course most of the people in the family who could have talked about him are dead or never met him. My friend's Mom is still alive and I'm waiting to find out if she discovers any more about him through her family. If the name is verified, IMO it would prove a legitimate psychic ability or the ability to communicate with the other side.

You can read about her near death experience here.
