If you recall, the first trailer for Lionsgate's SAW V was released last week. Well, it seems one musician isn't too fond of her version of the song being used in the trailer.

Dear Friends,

Some of you have undoubtedly come across a movie trailer for the horror film Saw V with one of my songs as the background music.

Although I do not have a say in where and when my previously recorded music is used, I can tell you that a request was submitted to Rocketown records for the use of this song in the movie trailer, and after reviewing the trailer, Rocketown denied the request.

At this point, we are unsure of how and why this version of the trailer has appeared on some websites. We hope to solve this matter as quickly as possible. Thank you for understanding.

Friends:

Sometime during the afternoon of Friday, July 25th, my voice on "Be Thou My Vision" was replaced by another singer.

The track still sounds nearly identical, and most websites continue to "credit" me for it, but the background music for the Saw V trailer is no longer my original version of "Be Thou My Vision."

Thanks.

--Ginny Owens

Looks like Lionsgate found a loophole and used a cover song. Clever move on their part. But in my opinion, the record company was being pretty selfish, or not too smart. I would be proud if somebody wanted to use my music for a movie trailer. Especially something as popular as the SAW franchise. It's not like very many people even knew who she was before this trailer came out. To be honest, this will probably put her on the map for Christian music. People now are probably thinking "ZOMG I gotta hear that trailer with that Christian song on it from SAW V!"

There is no such thing as bad publicity!

Well you still dig Saw movies ;) I wouldn't want my song used for Saw V. The first Saw, sure, not any of them after that (though I'd give minor consideration to III). ROMAN NUMERALS!

Hell, I'd be proud if someone was just listening to my music you anti-piracy mother fucker.

Uhm...what the hell do my views on piracy have to do with anything right now? This thread isn't about piracy, you "supporting-piracy motherfucker". It's about an artist not wanting her song in the SAW V trailer.

Ok I think the song suits the trailor. But I also don't agree with someone being able to use her music for something she doesn't approve of. HOWEVER she should have thought about that when she signed her contract and began singning.

Either way I'm excited to see this Saw movie. I'm just really hoping it picks back up because IV was not as good as it should have been.

You said you would be proud if someone wanted to use your song, permission or not. If you download a song your using it without permission.
