I don't know.
Maybe it's just me, but I usually see movies with different expectations than "great CGI". I sort of expect things more along the lines of "character development", "use of lighting", "plot", "meaning". I have a feeling you and I wouldn't really like the same movies. My favourite movement has definitely been the Dogme 95 movement: filmed mostly with handheld cameras, props and music done on set... it's beautiful and emotional because it forces the director to really think about how the lighting affects the mood, or how important a certain tone in the actor's voice is. I'm not impressed by great CGI. It's cool and neato that we can make all these realistic flames and whatnot, but it's usually at the cost of something else. I'd rather see great acting, great set design, great scripts.
I'm not attacking your choice of movies. I disagree with you, but everyone has their thing, I suppose.
