My wife and I have watched both Ghost Hunters (SciFi Channel) and Most Haunted (Travel Channel) for several years. How do you think the shows compare?
I noticed several Ghost Hunters threads in the forum, but most of them had to do with particular episodes. My question is what do you think of these guys and gal?
Last night we watched 3 Ghost Hunter episodes with the Roto Rooter, part time Ghost Hunter team to the rescue. My usual complaint is that usually they don't find anything. It's good for their integrity but bad for entertainment. But last night they did pick up a full body apparition on a thermal cam. And they had someone tugging on their pants legs. It was good and it seemed genuine (episode in Hot Springs, Arkansas at a Hotel.) However I'll always admit that as a at-home viewer unless you were there, you'll never know if it was real or faked. In another episode someone (I forget which team member) claimed to have been burned on their lower back And in another episode someone supposedly got cut on the ankle.
My beefs with this show is that while these guys have the gear, they seem to be lacking in their ghost hunting bag of tricks.
1) Almost always they never do any research on the property they are investigating.
2) They don't have a medium on staff.
3) Watching them analyze data is find of funny "Hey, what's that? Gee, I don't know"
I do like the fact that they try to debunk events, such as the noisy furnace under the living room. But there are times when they seem to discover real paranormal events and I don't like the advice they give to the occupants of the haunted houses. Such as footsteps, unexplained consistent noises, being touched, definitely something paranormal, and they tell this scared couple, "we are not prepared to say your house is haunted, but there is paranormal activity here". Then they say "treat it like a person; we don't see any evidence that they mean you harm", and I say "based on what exactly?". Finally they say "We recommend you get together and ask them to leave." and "you know we're always there for you." Hmm.
I'm sorry but if you believe in the possibility of some paranormal/haunting event, their advice sounded very weak to me. I think once you have decided there is something going on, then it takes more investigation, which I've never seen them do. Has anyone?
Most Haunted based in England is a much more polished production who usually has one or two mediums with them on the investigation. However ironically it seems like it is much more like a show based on entertainment, and not so much on authentic events. But they do seem to get lots of action, like things being thrown at them, chandeliers moving, tables rising, and such.
Ultimately it seems Ghost Hunters is a more honest show, but for both of them, us at-home viewers will never really know about the integrity of either show.
