I'm so happy right now :)

I don't know if many people even know about this so a bit of backstory - there is this website called freecycle, and the idea that is if you have stuff you don't want and is in reasonable condition but you can't be bothered to sell it, you offer it free of charge to anyone who wants it. The person who wants it has to collect it. You can offer stuff you have, or ask if anyone has something you need.

I haven't got a freezer. It was all right during the winter months, because our house gets so damn cold that we just put things like soft drinks in the conservatory and it kept them nicely chilled :p but it's meant we can't ever buy more than a weeks worth of food before it goes off, and we can't buy large packs of things at better value.

So I put an advert on freecycle this morning, not expecting much because I tried once before a few months ago and got no response. I've had TWO people offer us a freezer! We're going for one which is a 5ft upright model, all we have to do is arrange a time to collect it mid-week :)

This is so great! Now I can buy things like fish fingers, ice cream, frozen veg, we can actually store ice and buy more than one bag of bread at a time....

Seriously, it's a great idea, both for getting rid of your own stuff if you can't be fussed with selling and posting, and it can be a real bargain if you're in need of something. When I was moving house I found someone advertising that they had some cardboard boxes they didn't need, it's so useful :willy_nilly:

i just joined, theres alot of people who want free laptops.and the ones who need a tv are giving specifics as to what they want...talk about beggers cant be choosers

LOL we don't seem to get as much of that in my area but yeah, some people seem to think it's an ordering service :p

Some people really do give away TV's every now and then, but they're often not really great top of the range ones, otherwise you'd probably try and sell them first. Mostly it's big furniture, baby items, secondhand clothing or small house goods.

Not to rain on your parade of good fortune

But...............

Before you go and buy a lot of food give it a week or two running to make sure they did not just use you as a disposal service for a piece of crap that quit working.

Sure, thanks for the tip :)

They sound pretty legit, they don't live far from us and apparently they're getting rid of it because they just bought a new chest freezer to replace it - we're not going to collect it till Thursday so they've got a bit of time to clean it out. Which is good if it's true since it must have been working for them but you're right, we'll run it for a bit before we fill it up to be sure it doesn't just fail in the middle of the night!

I can't wait though... this means I could also do things like make a batch of bolognese or chili and freeze it :)

Yeah this, a while back my mum got a toaster from someone on there, anyway she plugs it in downstairs and all the other plugs in the house go, so we have to switch them all on again via the electric board. Tried it again to make sure it was this toaster and it was. Straight in the trash it went and she never could track this guy down because he had deactivated his account thingy.

well usually i don't bother with sites like this but glad helps:willy_nilly:

usually i do a garage sale and put everything so little maybe no more then few dollars even 50 cents
a good way and fast for stuff you don't want or use any more ..you don't make a lot of money as you have it very very cheap but you don't need to worry to put things in the bin :24:
and you end up with something little too even if you only got 10 dollars the point is you got rid of it

another good way is put the stuff out and say sale go to sleep the next day most will be gone
if you put nothing people may think are broken and don't take them :ninja
