Fort Langley......

..... was a settlement established in 1827 by the oldest incorporated company in North America and most of the world for that matter.

I've been through a few of them across Canada over the years and I find it interesting to see how people lived and worked ages ago. No electricity, no running water, no this no that etc.

I took these shots in color and converted them to B & W but if you want to see the original version just holler.

these are interesting guyz,nice post.....i think having them in black and white adds some atmosphere too.....but saying that i think the one of the dinner table would be good if the food was still in colour

I wasn't sure if you were talking about the dinner table in the " boss's house " or the " workers " meager setting. I'm assuming it was this one....

Interesting shots from such a historic site.

Of these, I like the candle shot best. Looking through your slideshow - I saw what looked like a mini four poster bed - interesting for such a colony.

It's not a mini bed believe it or not. Way back then the men were a lot shorter than they are today and that bed is for an adult. This fort was a bit different because it was settled quit a bit later than the ones back east but those ones are a good reflection on human size. The ceilings and doorways are so low we had to duck to get through most of them.

btw did you notice the chamber pot? :eek

Ah - a proper bed then. It just seemed odd as it looked singled size for the men folk but I'd not seen a four poster in anything other than double form before.

I did see that pot but decided not to comment on what could have been a very smelly room at the time :nod:

I remember those things. My granny used to leave them in our room when I stayed the night but I don't recall ever using it.
