This guy I've done work for in the past got at me about doing a Halloween flier for him and he still hasn't paid me for past work rendered. Needless to say I told him no. I mean does he think I just hand out freebies will nilly?

Pehaps you should start asking for a percentage paid up front before you start in future.

Say 20% as a deposit then the rest payable when you finish. All other businesses work this way for goods/services ordered in advance.

And dont hand over/send off the finished product until they HAVE paid you

I would strongly urge you keep a register with those you do work for and send them a bill if they don't pay, leave terms on the bill that clearly state when payment is expected and when it is past 30/60/90 etc.

i'd have said," yes sure i will do the work so long as you pay me what you owe from the last job with the interest...interest being the amount you'd pay for this job just incase you decide to fuck me over again."

lmao...only i wouldn't use the word fuck. LOL

When I have artwork/graphics done for myself, the vendor will send me a proof verifying as to what I want. Once it is agreed on what is to be produced, I then get a work production invoice to sign that tells me what the amount due will be once the product is created. Once the product is delivered, I get an actual invoice along with the work production invoice along with what was agreed to be produced. Payment is net 30 (paid within 30 days).

From personal experience, ensure that EVERYTHING is spelled out to the "T" as far as what is to be produced.

I have a good relationship with a guy who does digital printing for shirts, worked with him for the last 7 years, he hired a new guy, and the guy sends me a boat load of shirts that was the wrong color. BIG mistake, both of our fault because the new guy never knew what I had always ordered, and I assumed that since I only got one color shirt, that would be the color they would send.
