Increase the Longevity of your Playstation 1 Games with How to Play PSX Games on your PC!

Written by Household Hacker
Monday, 04 August 2008 12:32 The Playstation 1 heralded a new age of gaming for console systems, bringing powerful new graphics and realistic sound to the world in one of the most pouplar systems of all time. From amazing action games to engrossing role playing games, the PS1 brought all this and more with almost 8,000 titles over an 11 year run up until 2006. Playing this system was a lot of fun, but sometimes you don't want to track down the console and controllers in order to play the enjoyable games from that era. So today we'll show you 2 great emulators that will work well with your computer (you have one of those, don't you?) so you don't have to go through pains to enjoy some old school gaming.
Check out "read more" for the entire article, with instructions on how to breathe new life into those old games. Remember: you need a copy of the Playstation 1 game disc to get this to work. Also, feel free to post your favorite Playstation 1 games below to recommend to others, or your experiences with the arrticle's game emulators!
ePSXe - Written by 3 authors and released in 2000, ePSXe was the forerunner of Playstation emulation and remained the number one emulator while the other emulators of the time have faded into obscurity. This console requires several plugins, including video, sound, CDrom, and netplay plugins as well as the original Playstation BIOS. If you don't feel like going through the work to get the original Playstation BIOS to play the games, there are alternative methods (see second post in this thread). There is a little more work involved getting this emulator running compared to the pSX Emulator below.
pSX Emulator - Released the same year that the Playstation 1 stopped production in 2006, the pSX Emulator strives to emulate the original console's hardware and thus attempts to be as compatible with as many of the Playstation's 8,000 titles as possible. The downside to this is the fact that the graphics can only be as sharp as the original Playstation's- which means that the visual experience of some games won't have aged very well in terms of eye candy. With this download all you need is an original Playstation BIOS file to get started, easily found with your search engine of choice. Getting this emulator started is LESS WORK than ePSXe.

Emulation for the Playstation sucks! Hell, emulation for the Nintendo 64 sucks too!
Plus, I've had a really good run with my consoles and games... I really don't think I've had to replace anything... well except maybe for a memory card here and there. So yeah, using my console and TV is a hell of a lot better than some shitty, half botched program.

I actually just got one because emulation just doesn't do it for me.
Haha, why? Didn't want to torrent the games? =P

I used ePSXe and it worked wonderfully. 64 emulation works fine if you set it up right, it's just harder than hell to find a gamepad that you can make work like a 64 controller, they were so fucking weird. The reason I don't like emulation is because it just doesn't feel the same. I like the shitty load times on my PS1, my old greesy controller, and hell, even arguing with my NES to get it to play those old dusty games.
