Hey, don't hate. She needs those foodstamps because she's so deep in debt. What with the two new houses and the car and all.

I hadn't read of it.
What about those that haven't won a lottery and currently have little means of support?

Sure, there are many abusing the system, but is that a good argument for denying those that don't at the same time, by ending a program?

I have seen people abuse food stamps and I have seen people buying food with food stamps that obviously need that little bit of extra help until they turn their personal economic situation around.

More reform of the food stamp program seems logical, imo.
But it's been a while since I've seen it discussed by either party.
Must be an election coming up :D

Like I posted, I haven't read about that incident, but it is unsettling to see it happen and then possibly used as logic for ending a program.
I can understand your anger.

The food stamp program has undergone massive reform in the past decade. Many are just unaware of it. There are no longer actual "food stamps" any longer - it is done electronically like a credit card. This has made fraud extremely difficult. Do the EBT cards completely eliminate fraud? Of course not. But it massively reduced fraud.

I do find it interesting how so many folks decry programs like food stamps but ignore corporate welfare thatis soaking the taxpayer far worse than all food stamp and welfare recipients combined.

As for Clayton, she won $1 million in the state’s “Make Me Rich!” game. According to The Detroit News, she took home $500,000, which she used to buy a new home and car.

The uproar over her winnings started this week after she told Detroit television affiliate WDIV that she was “struggling” to make ends meet.

“I thought they would cut me off, but since they didn’t, I thought maybe it was OK because I’m not working,” she said. “I feel that it’s OK because I have no income, and I have bills to pay. I have two houses.”

So tell me why do you guys hand out food stamps ( cards ) still as it seems to encourage people to try and beat a system. Sort of like a game to play.

Here we have for the longest time just given allocation of funds within a certain amount of money handed out to people requiring assistance.

Most grocery stores sell car parts, condoms, pharmaceuticals, kids toys and on and on that people could easily buy when one state ( province ) tried to regulate that people buy only food for a short period of time but it failed. People would resell the goods and make money off that check from that store in question and buy other stuff..

The logic today is to basically hand them the money for feeding themselves with bare essentials for the time period allocated with the money they have and they cannot get any more from any government agency period.. Meaning you need to live within your means we give you and that's it.. If you want to go drink it all, by all means go ahead but don't come back and ask for more, because there is no more to be handed out..

This is run by the states ( provinces )..

Well said!!!! I have to agree with you! I really can't stand when people try to take advantage of the system or try to beat the system. There are so many families that could really use the assistance but are unable to receive it because of those who abuse it.
