I use dafont.com, to get my fonts i need to work with images and shit. If someone creates a custom font for download on a font site like that can I seriously get in trouble for using it commercially without permission from the artist? Cuz I download some zip files that contain readme files.... I think its a bit of a lame joke....

Well, it really depends, and there is not simple answer.

It really depends on the Licensing and the user agreements. Some user agreements prohibit anything from the font, for example, artwork, shirts, stencils, stickers etc for commercial/for profit use without expressed permission. On the other hand some fonts are licensed under things like the GPL or 'Free' licensing, and are not subject to such restrictions. The only thing I can tell you is to read the EULA's and/or the licenses or the policies on redistribution and use from the sites you downloaded them from, to see whether or not you need permission.
