Happened just before lunchtime, I wasnt far off.

I see no one in the northern hemisphere finds this newsworthy...even though its an historical event!!!!!

Oh well.....

I think our American friends are too concerned discussing the important issue of how the Socialist/Nazi/Marxist/Authoritarian President is ineffectual and doing nothing, but at the same time, changing the very fabric of American society.

I'm happy that Gillard is Prime Minister, I'm just not exactly sure if to approve on how it was done. Politicians in the Labor Party seem to rely too much on factional support. Kevin Rudd thought he was above factional politics, and didn't actively court his fellow members on the Labor Right once in power. A big mistake on his part, the only thing keeping him in power was his extremely high polling numbers, but when they started to plummet.... well, the rest is history.

Either way, I'd rather either Kevin or Gillard in power than Tony Abbot *shudder*

I was quite shocked to see this! Got to admit I've been a bit lax following Aussie politics lately but Kevin Rudd seemed like a great, popular prime minister. From what I can gather, he made a few unpopular decisions recently but it was more to do with his own party hating him, not the general population.

It's hard for me to get excited over it because I could care less if a leader of a country is male or female. What's important to me is if the elected official is capable of doing the job.

In Canada's case she wasn't. It took the opposition about 3 1/2 months to get her removed from office. It was quite the embarrassment actually.

Bloody oath! I agree about the way it was done, and its not only historical because she's a female, as far as I know, we;ve never had a change of leadership, or the leader overthrown whilst they were still in power (by their own party, not counting Goughs' sacking)

Thats right. Its gonna be an interesting few months.

Read my responsse to Merion....its not only the fact she's female that makes it historical.
