Here's a bit:

The Federal Reserve warned on Thursday that a growing congressional threat to curtail its independence would destabilise markets and raise the cost of servicing US debt for “current and future generations”.

Ron Paul, the Texas Republican, has gathered the support of a majority of the House of Representatives for a bill that would audit the Fed’s monetary policy decisions. He told a Congressional hearing he wanted the power to prevent the Fed being "secret and clandestine and serving special interests”.

The Fed is struggling to face down a political backlash from different parts of Congress amid scepticism over its policies designed to restart the flow of credit and the award of new powers to curb systemic risks.
Donald Kohn, vice-chairman of the Fed, argued at the House financial services subcommittee hearing that any sense of political interference would negatively affect markets. “Any substantial erosion of the Federal Reserve’s monetary independence likely would lead to higher long-term interest rates as investors begin to fear future inflation,” he said.

So, does Congress considering bringing accountability to the Federal Reserve make them potential terrorists? :24: Or is the Federal Reserve, by threatening destabilization by having accountability placed upon them, the potential terrorist? :24:

I get so confused in our Brave New World............

Question- Should the Fed be independent or subject to the political winds that blow in Congress? I need to sleep on that, but my initial reaction is to place the Fed under some kind of audit. Do you see the dilemma?

I see it, but the Fed isn't supposed to even exist. None of this crap would be happening on the gold standard.

I wasn't aware that Paul had built majority support for his bill. Good for him!

Since we as a nation were too distracted to put Ron in the WH - where he'd have probably been offed, I'm glad he is back where he belongs - being Dr. No.

Accountable, the first link above said this 'would change the fabric of our country'. Shouldn't they have said "change "Back"? For that IS how we started out....

Either way, I'll be totally surprised if his efforts have teeth. When does absolute power ever want to give it up? Some are speculating they'll tank it all before they'd be taken to account.. Again I ask, who is the terrorist?:dunno

I see your point, but you're missing a key distinction. Congress shouldn't be able to interfere in the Fed's decision making process. BUT that doesn't mean the Fed can't be held accountable for the decision it independently makes, see what I mean?

Based on your statement of the good ole Gold standard, I googled it and the first article I opened was The Myth of the Gold Standard. Your support of the gold standard appears be totally predictable... :D

One of the litmus tests of a person's conservatism is his commitment to the ideal of the gold standard. This is an appropriate test for conservatives. It shows a person's commitment to one of the movement's least understood and most futile political causes. It also identifies the adherent as a card-carrying member of the movement's cognoscenti.

Okay, so you've found yourself a convenient cubbyhole to put me in so you don't have to truly consider my ideas. your quote doesn't indicate if it's a compliment or insult, so I'll accept the compliment. :D
