I just done watching this for about the 20th time. Hunter s. Thompson was a genius. Every time i watch it i catch something ive missed before. Anybody else seen it? If not i highly recommend it.
I love that movie, I just have to be in the right mood to watch it.
I don't actually like the book, it's WAY to self-endulgent. The film on the other hand is filmatic genious, one of my favourites. Not for the glorification of drug use, but for its showing of how depraved the human imaginiation can be.
Sparkey film rating of 5 quacks out of 5
That movie was great. I think one would have to have an "open" mind to appreciate all of it though
I think the problem I have with Thompson is that his actualy journalitic work, mainly as a political writer was FAR superior to his Gonzo drug fuelled work. It was like taking a genious with amazing insights and getting them drunk, it's funny in a way, but not really what they should be appreciated for. A ramble thorough the English language and poorly constructed sentences, where drugs and antics are more important that the actual story or plot. Sidelining is great for a while, but it borders on dogmatic self-endulgence after a while.
Some of his later work recaputered some of his genious, parts of 'Kingdom of fear,' but I just feel, that his famous works mainly Fear and Loathing is remebered because of what he did, not how he wrote it. Idolisation by the young for being wild is not enough in my eyes to say that he was genius.
But as for all things, these are just opinions, and both 'right and wrong bat for the same team'
thank you for the quick run down!! lol save me the trouble of imb'in the damn thing lolQuick synopsis - journalist takes his mate to Las Vegas to cover a racing event in the Nevada desert, to help them with the dull nature of the job, they load up on drugs and a dictophone to record the increasingly twisted ramblings of said journalist. Hilarity and insanity follow...

I could not agree more with this person. The film on the other hand is filmatic genious, one of my favourites. Not for the glorification of drug use, but for its showing of how depraved the human imaginiation can be.
