Who is your favorite philosopher? (NOTE: Unless you are atheist, please no prophets/religous founders. They aren't really philosophers.)

I disagree with a lot of what he says (especially the whole souls thing) but there's enough that I agree with him on that I think I'm justified.

Ayn Rand competes for the top, but she kind of stood on Aristotle's shoulders, so she couldn't make it.
And as much as I hate to admit it, Reagan was, in fact, not a philosopher.

I really haven't study to many philosopher's thoroughly, however in my philosophy class I've enjoyed reading Plato and Paolo Freire.

Plato can be fun to read - sort of like Neitzche can be fun to read. Disagree with them on so many levels, but it's still fun to read philosophic novels.

AEF's already got a couple of mine. Nietzche's the fuckin man. If it seems like he's simply writing literature, it's because he was the first philosopher to completely embrace the failure of academic metaphysics. Rouseau's the fuckin' man as far as political/social philosophy goes.

But Aristotle still gets my vote as number one simply because he is the beginning of philosophy as we recognize it.
