A French train has set a new land speed record for a train travelling on rails.
The train has travelled at a speed 60 kilometres per hour faster than an earlier French model did in 1990.
With the speed of a small plane, the French double-decker TGV train hurtled into the record books at nearly 575 kilometres per hour.
The sleek black and chrome bullet train had been equipped with special large wheels and two supercharged engines for the record attempt and the track had been strengthened to support the extra speed.
The ultimate speed record for any train was set in Japan four years ago when a magnetically-levitated train travelled at a speed of 581 kilometres per hour.
