[h=1]Facebook Home Phone to Have Ads[/h]So who will want this ?

Well not me for the following reasons..

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who went on to pose the question: "What would it feel like if our phones were designed around people, not apps?"

I have no idea because Facebook is nothing but Apps.

Knowing Facebook the Home Screen will change monthly ( like Newsfeed Screen ) and companies will not want you having a Social media Phone at hand 24 hrs a day but rather working.. Did we forget people work and don't always spend 100% of their time looking at Facebook.

Also who wants Ads to appear on your Home Screen.. But what really scares me is will they most likely have access to all your Contacts and Phone numbers as we all know how great Facebook privacy is and though they claim it will be just as good as your phone.... :willy_nilly:

No way is Home being installed on my Phone or Tablet or am I investing in a Facebook Phone..

Will you ?

Pass.

We talk about the gov't getting too much of our private information, yet most of us willingly let private companies track our every move.

Can you imagine if work was set up that way?

*ding* George has arrived for work.
*ding* George is having coffee
*ding* George is in the men's room
*ding* George is having coffee
*ding* George is visiting Sarah
*ding* George is having coffee
*ding* George logged into his workstation.

What stops any government from buying information available to any company from Facebook or even Google for that matter ?

Analytic is up for sale to anyone.. What's included in that information is a different topic and what really matters.

But imagine them tracking all the places you have been in the last year by accessing Facebook or Foursquare information so see if you have logged in from the US, the UK, Russia back to Africa and than the US again..

Maybe they want to track how many times you have been to the Caymen Islands and you are stupid enough to have left a trail..

Is that public information taboo for the government or even a police agency to access ?

Some companies have this ability to track employees.. Its part of the waiver they sign ( if they chose ) when they accept a company Cell phone.

The other little tracking entity most don't think about is your GPS unit in your car. Unless you use a portable one and never update and only use it when absolutely needed they all track and sell that info. Insurance companies are big buyers of that data. Now that the new ones track your speed and show the posted limit they rate your premium on how often you exceed it.

Makes sense.

I know that trucking companies' trucks record everything like an airplane's black box, including speedometer readings, length of stops, etc etc.

Most folks don't even know they can do it. Onstar is a major one that does it. The insurance companies would love nothing more than to force folks to let them plug into the data port in their cars once a year. They have lobbied for it at the state level. DOT shares mileage data with them all the time.

Pass. I always try to go through my services and make them as restricted as possible. It bugs me when I get a notification about a friend's every move. Do cell phones automatically announce when they arrive at a restaurant or tanning salon, or do people really think it would interest us to know where they go?

I could see where it would be useful for younger children..but only to notify the parents....not all 500 friends.
I believe on android you can use latitude within the maps application to do that....not sure if its automatic though...or if the phone holders has to "push" their location.

Today was a prime example why I keep a land line. We lost power about 8 am and I was able to use the old wall phone That does not need power to call the utility and report it. Turns out a tree came down in all the high winds and took out 331 households for about 5-6 hours. Would have played hell keeping a signal with the cell to get through the automatic answering system.

One of the biggest issues without having a land line people don't think about is the mapping/grid system. Call from your home on a cell phone and give them your address where to send help to and you could be rolling the dice that they waste time trying to find you, particuarly out in the country. Anyone who takes a GPS system to my house will ALWAYS waste 10 minutes going down a road that they don't need to.

We have enhanced 911 and it puts them close. I have the legal reflective sign and a BIG mailbox with the name and numbers across the road from my lane. Because it is so long and you can't see any of our building most don't even know it is here. The good news for me is all the local fire and ambulance know me on a first name basis and a few have been here before to haul me out. The ambulance captain lives right across the street from the fire hall so he is rolling and the others catch up with him en-route.He is also the roadmaster so he knows almost everybody in the township and where they are located.
