Got a letter through today. Apparently someone has set up a direct debit on our account for a mobile phone and run up a bill for over £1000! Because the money wasn't in the account it bounced and now the bank is telling us we have to pay a £35 charge even though it wasn't our fault! I am so pissed off right now!:mad

That sucks Peter... I would try to fight it, don't just give up on it, fight your way to the top of the bank if you have to. They don't like loud angry customer...

Thats probably the equivelent of at least 1250 dollars! It sucks because if you get a strange large direct debit, the're supposed to contact you first to ask whats going on!:mad

I would go to the bank and get my options together. They are supposed to be a safe place for you to put your money. They messed up. They should fix it. Period. Dont take no for an answer.

Banks can be a little strict with things, but in the end they are very resonable or have been for me at least.

I'm with Tim. If one person doesn't give you the right answer in your favor, go to his/her boss; if not that person, go to his/her boss. Make alot of noise and in the long run, usually, they will see the "right" way to deal with a customer and square you away in your favor and help you resolve any credit problems that they could have prevented.

One direct debit for 1250 bucks? Um... are you the sole owner of that account? If someone tried to do that with my bank they would be calling me so I can authorize it first.

I think someone is screwing with your account and the bank f'd up hardcore, you should not have to pay for it.

Well, I've had to report it to the Police as it's a case of fraud. I also have to try and get my money back fronm Vodaphone so even more hassle. I also have to shut the account down and open a new one which is just great because I'll have to spend loads of time shutting down my direct debits and reopening them again.:mad

Banks really suck - the worst part is that they think that somehow it's all your fault. Like you walk around randomly handing out your account number to any mother f**ker that you see.

Not a great fan of banks, but there aren't too many other options.
