Prince William and Kate Middleton are set to receive their very own crown jewels worth £60million as a lavish wedding present.
In an extraordinary act of generosity, billionaires based in Saudi Arabia are trying to buy the couple a fabled set of coloured diamonds called the Rainbow Collection.
And while she may not have the jewels just yet, Kate was all smiles as she and William arrived for the wedding of their friends Harry Aubrey-Fletcher and Sarah Louise Stourton in Boroughbridge, North Yorks, yesterday. The 301 stones the couple could be given are the world's largest and finest assortment of coloured diamonds, owned by gems dealer Eddy Elzas.

A member of the Saudi Arabian royal family tried to buy them as a wedding gift for Prince Charles and Princess Diana in 1981, but the offer was turned down by Mr Elzas.
However, an insider at the Antwerpbased jewellers currently holding the gems says Mr Elzas is now looking to sell them on condition that whoever buys them gives them to William, 28, and Kate, 29. A source said: "Lots of Middle Eastern investors are keen to buy the collection and give them to William and Kate because it would be a huge badge of honour.
"A deal is now very close to being done and an announcement is set to be made soon. Mr Elzas is due to retire soon so is looking to sell. But he will only sell if they go to William and Kate. He thinks it would be a fitting gift for the couple."

whats worth more i ask......oil rich billionaires giving this or a working man on £200 a week giving something worth £100?

Every rich man and every working man is not generous. Generosity is a God-gifted trait which only some possess.

In your example I think the working man takes the lead because he's not only being generous but also
sacrificing half of his earning/week!! However, one has got to have a huge heart to gift such a splendid and extra-ordinary gem to one with whom he has no concern at all!! However, I think they are doing this ''show off'' to prove to the people, particularly the British regality, that how deeply they continue to love the lover of Diana and their kinsman Dodhi !!

it could be due to the diana link but also due to the fact that the british royal family is respected world-wide

That is too simplistic to say....other rich nations also enjoy respect by the Arabs.
It is and It is only the Dodhi-Diana respect they want to upkeep, moreso because Arab generosity
is historically well known. Check out how the Arabs treated Richard the Lion Heart during his defeat and capture during the crusades??
