Evil and Sane or Evil and Insane or Just Insane?

This is really a good question ... what "sane" person would commit such an act?

So what does a society do with such a person? Incarcerate in a prison system for life? Place him within psychiatric care until deemed healthy again to be released back into society? Execute him?

If I were some powerful leader who was appointed to make such a decision ... I would say execution. Not to try to deter anyone from doing the same thing as these types of crimes usually are done by someone who doesn't care what happens to them anyway. I would have him executed because he has surrendered his "rights" as a member of society. He obviously has no desire to remain part of society. Even if multiple psychologists concluded that he was "insane" and didn't fully understand his actions, that would suggest to me that he is an immense danger to society. The rights and safety of the innocent should always remain higher than the convicted.

This is just for this scenario ... might not be what I would think for other situations but for this one, I do.

If there is a video of you shooting people that is enough proof for me.

You are missing the point. The purpose of "due process" is ensuring consistency when dealing with law breaking. What you are suggesting is fertile ground for abuse.

The legal definition of insanity

in·san·i·ty

   [in-san-i-tee] Show IPA

noun, plural in·san·i·ties.1...........

2.Law . such unsoundness of mind as frees one from legal responsibility, as for committing acrime, or as signals one's lack of legal capacity,as for entering into a contractual agreement.

I'd argue that this man's systematic approach to acquiring weapons and ammunition, his research and execution of how to manufacture improvised grenades and booby traps, his calculated attempt to arrange a diversion by luring his neighbours with loud music in an attempt to get them to trigger an explosion in his apartment, and his calculated decision to use smoke canisters to generate maximum cover and confusion, then disengage from his attack and surrender whilst wearing body armour would more than indicate that he was fully aware of what he was doing, what the potential hazards were, and how best to preserve his own skin. These are not the actions of a madman.

Being able to sort out details and make a comprehensive plan does not ensure the person is sane. Think of "mad scientist".

For this level of destruction, I can't argue that execution would be unfair.

The guy is a nut, insane etc...does this excuse his act..not in this case as had the mental capacity to be aware of what he was doing/IMO
But then can one be of sound mind and carry a huge enough emotional handicap to commit such crimes? apparently so.

I dont offer this as an excuse for the guy...I wouldnt piss down his throat if he was dieing of thirst /am just pointing out he has some very deep issues
What he done was evil.........if the fucker manages to pull off an insanity plea somehow..he is one of the sanest fuckers in modern history ;)
