My childhood memories seem to be kind of shrouded and fuzzy. It's like when you're in blissful ignorance and you just take things at face value, but you don't care about asking questions or understanding everything you come in contact with.
I look back at that time and remember memories being fuzzy and I remember looking at a lot of floors and sidewalks. Now I feel like my eyes are open and I'm enlightened to the fact that I can, if I want, ask questions and explore.
Yeah, he totaly went the extra mile on that one! : D
Um....yeah. If there was ever such thing as going the extra mile...thats a prime example. Wut...you wanna fight er sumthin? : P
My dad is a professor of Eastern culture (religion specifically), and so I've always heard him talk about the whole idea of enlightenment as a state of being, beyond all suffering. I certainly see that as being possible, though I don't think I'm anywhere near that point yet. My sister lives in India, and she's told me that actually being in such a spiritually rich culture has really made her see how enlightenment is really a goal to work towards.
I believe it's very possible, for sure.
nice... I have been considering looking for local groups to possibly study and discuss with to see what their opinions of it is... it's interesting how the whole thing works and how people see it differently. I like the eastern world's view on enlightenment... it's almost like it's Enlightenment pro like they take it even further as something they can hold onto. Ive always wondered if I were to really try to approach it with traditional teachings if it could be a more useful part of my life. without a doubt there are a bunch of times where I find I have to remind myself how the world works because my head goes back to the way I thought in my teens/early 20's I feel if I could get more involved in a culture that focuses on enlightenment I might could teach myself to be a little more proactive about my way of life
You can be enlightened with almost anything really - from a way of life elsewhere, to a place you go to - because it is very different to what you are used to or seen, it will be enlightening. Enlightenment may not necessarily be always positive, but then you can choose what you do about it afterwards.
No-one can be enlightened, neg or pos, until they have come across a difference frm what they are used to.
without a doubt it comes from experiances not felt. roads not traveled. understanding the confusing stuff... that's essentially how it works I think... after a while you get used to not being used to everything in the world so that when things come at you they make sense even when they dont
