Endless Oil

Endless Oil - BusinessWeek

Not sure if this was ever posted but it seems some believe we will not run out of Oil for a Long time for good reason..

I have heard that in some circles others believe we should still move forwards with alternative products so we do not depend on one type of supply..

Do you believe we should depend on Oil so greatly for our economies to run or should we diversify and look at alternatives ?

There may be endless oil but how fucking oil derricks need to clutter fields before it gets to be too much? There is obviously cleaner ways to live....

I think the main reason to move away from oil is to reduce our dependency on foriegn oil. Is there REALLY enough oil in texas and alaske for us to continue the way we are?

Relying on anybody else, be it a person or a country, for anything you need to survive is a BAD idea. Don't need to major in geo-political science, it's common sense.

Way to beat a dead horse... You beat so bad i could choke you with it's intestine. Hey that could be fun.
Seriously Dana just think how many people would be out of a job if there were no cabs or people that wanted to ride them. Then there's the spin-off effect. Thousands would be affected by it. Just trying to imagine it gives me the shivers.

Edit: when you get thrown the right pitch you have no choice but hit it out of the park if you know what I mean.

I guess this is the end of the Iraq war, if it is lead to believe that oil was main reason for the invasion

Does no one care that Iraqi oil is only a tiny percentage of what the US uses? Know who supplies about 30% of the oil we use in the US? Canada. If we invade countries for oil, wouldn't we have invaded them first?

It was only suggested by the media that a load of people thought that Iraq supplied quite a bit of oil to the US

Maybe I shouldn't listen too much to the press

Even though Canada is a net oil exporter, it imports sizable quantities of crude oil and refined products. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), Canada imported around 1.2 million bbl/d of crude oil and refined products in 2008. Canada’s major population centers in the eastern part of the country are not well connected to its principle production facilities in the western interior, meaning that it is often easier to import oil along the coastlines rather than transport it domestically. Most oil imports come from Algeria (crude oil), Norway (crude oil) and the U.S. (refined products).

http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/Canada/Oil.html

I remember when Exxon, Texaco and Chevron all closed their local refineries to save costs and have it shipped back from the US to us locally. Now it seems the costs savings have disappeared.. Canadian prices at the pump are still near $4.00 a gallon US ( $1.09/ ltr )..

While we supply the US with much of it's Oil supply and gas prices are in the $2.50 to $3.00 range, we must pay a much higher price for a product we supply outside our own country..

It seems we get the raw end of the deal in this bargain...

I think we need to work towards creating cars that run efficiently on energy, while working on making green energy. It's easier to make energy green and it kills two birds with one stone.

they pay less than that and there is a reason. they pump it, they refine it, they sell it. you dont need to charge a lot for a self sustaining market like they have. its in abundance there. most countries in the middle east have very low gas prices.

we pump it but we also import it and pay what they demand we pay, they dont import it, they produce it. so much in fact they can afford to sell it across the world. then we refine it but it has to be broken down into formulas in specific parts of the country (federal emission laws), this makes gas production more expensive. and we sell it, but we let foreign entities like venezuela's citgo sell gas here, taking money from the US market and taking it back to venezuela. is BP still sold in the US? if so, same situation. not sure what the gas stations are like in iraq but i'm gonna guess there isnt a big foreign market there if it even has one.
