Interesting video and nice sharing. Nice to see when communities pull together for one of their own?

It's definitely a nice sentiment, however I wonder how that store is going to handle the long haul. The feel good piece touched upon one thing that seems to be the primary challenge of the small mom and pop brick and mortar stores: The Big Chains and wider selections available "elsewhere".

Small businesses just can't seem to compete next to their monolithic competitors, unless your really out somewhere in the woods, where the big stores have no foothold. Business is at a point where the small shops really need to consider altering their models to stay relevant, as the historical and sentimental value of a spot just isn't enough to sustain. Case in point is the 20 Mile House (near where we live). Historically its an old waypoint carriage station and inn. Over the last many years, I've seen more than a few small business attempt to make it home and failing. Now, the historical landmark is once again looking like it may get torn down for something else. I've seen a few emails fly by urging residents to keep a piece of history, but the businesses in there just weren't enough to bring most in.

True enough. I think it is a good and useful gesture to make that decision to do at least some shopping at a smaller place, at least as long as they're in business. Perhaps this story will pull that particular community a little closer to each other.
