Elliot Smith is one of my favorite 'mellow' artists. The text below is all in my words.

What must be the highlight of his career was performing at the Oscars one of the songs from the Good Will Hunting soundtrack much of which was written and performed by him.

While this may not be everyones cup of tea you can't deny the talent and feeling that Elliot has put into his music. I'd like to hear your opinions.

Please give at least a couple of these a listen as I'm sure you'll find his meloncholic yet often beautiful sound something worth listening to. :) (My favorite of these is 'Angeles')

Suffering from depression, paranoia and taking drink and drugs heavily he finally comitted suicide in October 2003 and in my opinion a relativly lesser known yet superb artist has been lost.

Angeles
Rose Parade
Happiness
Southern Belle
Division Day
Stupidity Tries
Independance Day
Son of Sam
Easy Way Out
Wouldn't Mama Be Proud?
The White Lady
See You Later

If you are interested in reading more about Elliot there is a very good page on Wikipedia found HERE.

I bought Figure Eight when it came out. I was seventeen, but I don't remember who reccommended it to me. I was totally in love with Elliott Smith.

I remember exactly where I was when I heard about his death too. I saw it on the news at Elf's house (my boyfriend at the time), and I got really choked up. So he drove me to the river and we listened to Elliott Smith and threw rocks into the water and talked about how great the music was.
