So the EDL who stand for outrage against poppy burning protests disrespecting soldiers decide that trying to have a punch up with Occupy London supporters on the 11 November isn't disrespectful. Oh, and not a single extremist Muslim protest today yet the Sun has two stories about them on it's website today and nothing about this EDL stuff.

[h=1]Police arrest EDL supporters 'to prevent breach of peace'[/h] Scotland Yard says it has arrested 156 English Defence League supporters, who may have planned to target Occupy London

Police have arrested 156 supporters of the English Defence League in order to prevent a breach of the peace, Scotland Yard said.
It is understood the EDL supporters were planning to target Occupy LSX protesters outside St Paul's Cathedral.
The EDL followers were arrested outside the Red Lion pub, in Westminster, and taken to central London police stations.
The arrests came after Scotland Yard was accused of sending out threatening messages on the social networking site Twitter in the runup to the two-minute Remembrance Day silence on Friday.
In a series of tweets an officer from CO11, the Metropolitan police's public order unit, said: "There is a policing operation in place to preserve the dignity of the two-minute silence.
"Individuals seeking to disrupt the two-minute silence will be dealt with robustly. Any police action will be considered and proportionate, respecting those who hold the two-minute silence as a sign of respect.
"If the memory of dead soldiers is insulted where people have gathered to honour those soldiers there is clearly a threat to public order.
"Deliberately using abusive or insulting words or behaviour is an offence under section 4 of the Public Order Act."
The tweets were greeted with outrage on Twitter, with critics accusing the Met of being intimidatory, threatening and aggressive.
Jules Carey, a lawyer who represented Lotfi Raissi, the Algerian pilot wrongly accused of taking part in the September 11 attacks, said: "This is the kind of freedom the veterans died for."
Referring to Scotland Yard's announcement this week that the Met had pre-authorised the use of plastic bullets in advance of the student anti-cuts rally, he added: "Are the Met about to announce that rubber bullets have been authorised for use on anyone showing insufficient respect?"
But Scotland Yard said it had issued the tweets because of intelligence that Muslims against Crusades were planning to repeat last year's protest to burn poppies during the two-minute silence.
In a statement the Yard said: "Last year during the two-minute silence a group burnt poppies and a counter-protest was also held. This caused considerable upset to members of the public and arrests were made as a result under the Public Order Act.
"Two people were later convicted in relation to this.
"Intelligence and information suggested a similar incident may occur this year. The tweets sent out from the CO11 Twitter account were intended to warn against this."
As the morning progressed, however, there was no sign of anyone from Muslims against Crusades – the group which was proscribed by the home secretary, Theresa May, on Thursday.
Instead police moved in on a large group of EDL supporters and made arrests to prevent a breach of the peace, in the belief they were going to cause trouble with protesters outside St Paul's.
On Thursday night officers carried out searches at addresses in east London linked to Muslims against Crusades under the Terrorism Act 2000.

I don't understand why the EDL wanted a punch up with Occupy London? :s

The EDL are tossers.

And it doesn't surprise me that The Sun is choosing to talk about Muslim Extremists, got to write about what their audience want. For the past month or so my facebook has been full of racist, xenophobic and at times, downright threatening posts from people who I thought were decent. All with Rememberence Day tied in to it.

Showing their true colours, they just like violence. No poppy burners to fight with today so try and pick a fight with another group that stands out from the crowd in London regardless of them having nothing to do with this issue. I know what you mean about people of facebook! I'm seriously considering deleting this idiot right now -

Commemorating memorial day by trying to have a punch up with peaceful occupy London protesters is disrespectful and hypocritical given their outrage against poppy burners. Funny how they target Occupy London protesters who have nothing to do withg that issue seeing there were no poppy burners around. Looks like they are just a bunch of mindless, violent thugs looking for any old excuse to cause trouble.8 minutes ago · Like

Yeah that has been exactly the same sort of things people on my facebook have been saying.

Along with other things like "If you don't wear a poppy fuck off out our country" then one of the people then went on to say how only red poppies should be worn because any other colour is disrespecting the war dead. I mean bloody hell, the poppies aren't just red. There is the white one for peace and the purple one to remember animals who have suffered or died in war. I saw someone else pointed this out on the person's status and got a charming amount of abuse, threatened with violence and called a "fucking paki lover"

It was a few Muslim Extremists last year. They do NOT speak for the vast majority of Muslims or foreigners. Tarring them all with the same brush and stirring up hatred is truely disgusting. Especially on Rememberence Day!

Do you think these idiots realise that they are being disrespectful of war heroes who were fighting and dying on our side in WWII who were Muslims? There were quite a lot of them.

I really think they don't know that people from across the world, of different colours, nationalities and faiths, have fought, died and ARE war heros. It's utterly mindblowing reading some of the comments and seeing how little these people on my facebook seem to know about the World Wars and wars involving the UK since then.
