So I suffer from eczema, I inherited it from my mother so I've had it since I was born.

My legs can look pretty bad sometimes, mainly around near my ankles to about half way up my shins. It gets pretty blotchy or inflamed.
I do moisturise every day, and use soap free moisturising shower gels that make my skin so soft.
So it's just the appearance of it really.

Do you think shaving my legs would worsen it?
Any ideas? :p

Moisturising shaving gels...they sell such things? I had no idea!
I'm trying to keep my legs and arms as 'moist' as possible :p

I was thinking of seeing a dermatologist maybe.

Lots of fish oils Kimmy. Do you take fish oil tabs?

Use Cornflour when its itchy...like talc...wont inflame or supress it.

Big dietary changes can help, and try to avoid cortisone creams:thumbdown

My eldest suffered a lot, but rarely gets it now..only in summer if she does.

Oatmeal baths are fantastic too. MAybe shave in an oatmeal bath? Worth a try

I tried taking fish oil once but I was young and a little silly because I didn't take them long enough for them to work. But I could try that now I think.

Cornflour sounds interesting though lol.
My mum always said the oatmeal soap we use does good, but I don't know, my other usual soap free stuff hides it on my arms pretty well lol.

also Cedaphil or cedafil....??

it has gelatin in it - they make a soap and a lotion.

for when it's really bad you can use cortizone cream. I have it too ;)

lol ok - sorry I didn't see your note there about that - I did read about the dietary thing.

For the most part, I get it where things rub...like where my bra rubs or where my elbows rub or ankles

so it comes back anyways, but when I get it in random places I find the cream does help - but the best thing has been the soap with gelatin.

I've only just now, after reading this, put together the numerous amount of people I have known who suffered from both.

Are the two linked?

Asthma is the eczema of the lungs.:(

My daughter does NOT suffer from asthma at all.....and thats because I have NEVER used steroid creams on her.

She is one of the VERY few who dont have both.

Odd, never heard that before... I had a specialist for my asthma as a child, I guess this is all more recent common knowledge?

Found this after reading your post http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/05/090518213939.htm

I was diagnosed with Asthma when I was 3, been fighting and living with it all my life, I never had a problem with eczema until 4-5 years ago. My father has it(no asthma though), and my son had it since birth (managed carefully now) and his 1st Christmas we were in the hospital because he couldn't breath properly... they diagnosed him with early stages of asthma(bronchiolitis). Wonder it it works both ways, Asthma leads to eczema, and vice versa?

My girl was covered in eczema when she was born. I tried everything...but always baulked at the cortisone creams for some reason.
When she was about 2 or 3 I took her to my friend..an old Dutch homoeopath who had been practicing for 40 years
He told me NEVER to use the steroids as they push the eczema into the lungs...and only suppress it causilng asthma later in life.
This was 20 years ago, and what got me first interested in homoeopathy and nutrition.
Everything he told me would happen did...that it would take years to get out of her system, but to never suppress it...to avoid acidy foods and eat lots of fish oils.
She grew out of it by the time she was about 10...and as I said, has gone from being covered in it....to only getting the odd patch behind her knees in the height of summer...and she has never suffered from asthma.
It took a lot of patience...and sometimes the cream is the easy way out because it does SEEM to work so well...but believe me...its doing more harm than good in the long run

Dang... I think I'll stop giving Michael is topical Vaseline steroid mix.:eek and get us both on fish oil stat!!

I noticed my eczema got worse using the one they prescriped for me, side effect is the skin grows/heals thinner... as is more easily broken. They gave Michael a some kind of shot at his one year appointment... I forget the name now, but all his rash went away, now justg ets patches like you mentioned.. more easily managed with lotion and diet control. I only was using the steroid cream when it got cracked... I think I'll stop all together now.
