BENTON--- It's a story that's getting a lot of publicity-- a Benton woman who offered to sell her life, including her children, on eBay.
Local officers admit the posting is bizarre, but they say the issue has been blown out of proportion.
The offer had stated the woman would give up her life to the highest bidder.
It's a posting drawing a lot of intrigue, but investigators say the woman did not do anything illegal.
For the right price, the woman had said she would sell her four year-old and eight year-old daughters for two days, so she could have some rest in a quote 'roach motel.'
The woman describes her children as crazy and unruly, and herself as bi-polar. She even says the deal would include her medications.
While it seems disturbing, Benton Police Chief Mike O'Neill says the woman was simply making a cry for help
"It was a way for her to make contact with somebody and open up a dialogue."
Since yesterday, the listing has been taken off the internet.
"We didn't request for it to be pulled but eBay made that determination cause it didn't comply with their policy."
Officials have also spoken with the woman and are working to get her some assistance.
"She's been put in contact with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services."
Officers are not releasing the woman's name right now, but say she is 31 years-old and has addresses in both Chicago and Benton.
O'Neill admits he's surprised the story has received national news attention.
"It's a little overwhelming for a small department. I keep asking, is it a slow news day?"
Friday morning Chief O'Neill is scheduled to be a guest on the Mike and Juliet show to talk about the whole ordeal. That airs at 11 am on TV 3.
Ummm........I am speechless. So many thoughts running thru my head at this moment
