Warning - extremely graphic and may piss some of you off...sorry.

My teacher who is a vegetarian made me watch it - she made me take it home and watch it.

I am a vegetarian, but I have pledged to be so for only a year. However, after watching this movie, I have decided to eat way less meat and then eat only grass fed beef, etc. if I ever do go back to eating meat.

And it's not just about cruelty to animals. It's about the waste and excess that Americans bring with their meat heavy diet.

If I can live a year without meat or meat products, then we all can. If we chose not to, we should be educated on the impact that has on our world.

Well lets face it humans can't really live without meat. They love it too much and the human body needs it. So the solution isn't for humans to stop eating meat, the solution is for humans to reduce their consumption of meat and for something to be done about the horrible way animals are slaughtered in factories.
For example, in Islam when you slaughter an animal you should do it in the least painful way and not in the presence of other animals. The flesh of animals killed by cruel method is unlawful to eat. Here's a website about it: Animals in Islam
Humans should also be made aware of how those animals are slaughtered...not a lot of people know about it.

Humans do NOT need meat. We do WANT it though.

Millions of people are vegetarians their entire lives.

If yall want to eat meat, that's cool with me - I am not trying to convert anyone. Not at all. I like steak.

BUT I think everyone should be able to accept that the majority if not all of their meat that they get comes from animals slaughtered in a horrific way - especially in America.

In that movie, they show the largest manufacturer of Kosher meat, and they are actually the most cruel.

not to say that is true for all Kosher manufacturers, but any time you mass produce something corners must be cut

If your product is meant, the corner that is cut is humane ways to treat and kill the animals and sanitation.

The problem, Janie, is that humans are not going to give it up. You have to face that fact. Humans are not going to give it up.

What needs to be done is stopping the support of these factory grown animals that are treated so poorly. I know animal cruelty exists, I won't deny that; but most agriculturalists are heavily against animal cruelty. Take for example, those pictures of those two goats I showed on here a few days ago, that were overburned disbudding. When I showed that to people in my goat community, there was outrage, OUTRAGE at people harming the goats, accidental or not, by other farmers.

When you show this video to agriculturalists, like me, you are going to get outrage. It's horrible, illegal, and unnecessary. It happens in only a small number of farms, but those farms are the largest farms in existence. Those are factory farms. And it is the fault of the average consumer for supporting those factory farms over local small farms. Local small farms don't just treat animals well because it is illegal to do otherwise, but also because, it is the right thing to do and we love our animals.

Not only are we just as outraged at animal cruelty as the average consumer, it's something that deeply effects our daily lives. People have started looking at agriculturalists like they are all the same, like they all abuse animals; when the truth is, only a very small amount do. We need to stop saying "get rid of all agricultural industry" and start saying "get rid of all cruel agricultural industry."

Agriculturalists are just as outraged by this as you.

What are we supposed to do after 'accepting that we are cruel to animals' ;)

The point of the movie is to get people to stop eating meat. Worked for you.

no it didn't "work for me" Bri

My new year's resolution was to not eat meat for a whole year. I decided that months ago. I watched the movie a few days ago...again READ.

if you accept that the meat you eat probably came from a cruel slaughterhouse, then cool - you're not a hypocrite

but if you sit there and say "I don't want to know!" then that must mean it disturbs you. And if it disturbs you then why eat meat? that's kind of hypocritical

all I'm saying is people should b educated about where their meat comes from

quit trying to argue with me Bri when I am on your side or the side of "agriculturalists"

Okay, it's just that I am strongly against movies like this because they enforce the wrong solution, which is 'we should stop eating animals' not going to happen, not going to fix it.

Bri. They don't enforce that.

Quit assuming you know and actually freaking watch the trailer or read what I posted.

You're worse than Jessica.

I watched the trailer.

These organizations are generally trying to do the same thing; that is, stop people from eating meat at all, rather then fight animal cruelty. People are already aware that animals are treated cruelly. Half of this stuff is already on the net. I would have rather seen the millions they spent putting this movie together, actually go to helping animals being mistreated.

I don't accept this statement as accurate, especially since it's my business to know where the products that I serve my guests come from. Are there slughterhouses and "factory farms" that do use some horrible practices in their operation? Sure. Are they the overwhelming majority of meat producers in the world? I would say absolutely not. And their numbers are shrinking as more and more people become insistant on knowing where their meat products come from.

I would also add that there are probably far worse conditions in vegetable farming as far as how unsafe, unsanitary and unfriendly to the environment they are. But because there's not death and blood involved people have almost no interest in thinking about it.

what if i eat organic? or what if I buy my produce from a local famer's market?

there is always going to be waste and bad practices in the world, but by eat less meat or by buying good quality meat at higher prices we can limit the amount of big slaughterhouses who are the ones whose practices are horrific and cruel.

you are a chef, so of course your meat is quality and you know where it comes from

but you can't say that for the average American who probably buys their meat from wal-mart or the equivalent

it's just like that Fast Food Nation book - are most of living off of Fast Food? No - because we have sense.
But a lot of Americans are.

Yes, but there are LOTS of chefs who are demanding to know this. And more and more, even chain restaurant and even fast-food companies are seeing that they have to have higher standards in their sourcing. It's still a problem, and there is still shitty meat in the marketplace. But it's getting better, and I don't think that the people who put their tax-exempt funds into producing "scare tactic" films want people to believe this. I compare it to people like Jessie Jackson who makes his living fighting racism. He doesn't REALLY want to end racism, because that would put him out of a job and out of the spotlight.

I've personally done dehorning, castrating, detailing, debeaking, and ear clipping. I have visited a pig factory farm and a commercial dairy. The things they show in this movie are not industry standards. The way the procedures are shown done are mostly being done incorrectly, and they are normally done correctly, otherwise the animals die and people lose a large amount of money.

This movie is just as bad as any other I have seen. Sporting misinformation and lies to a general public that doesn't know any better.

Bri they say this in the film

They say that it isn't the standard - that these are bad examples of these practices being done by the largest meat manufacturers only.

The film focuses on mass production gone awry not just meat.

BTW the film also talks about animals in science, as pets, for entertainment and as clothing.
