I know some high level politician's are making a case to pray for rain, but besides God withholding rain to Texas, my understanding is that La Nina is being blamed. I just don't understand why a ridge of high pressure would park itself over Texas and refuse to move. I've always thought high and low pressure systems are on the move, basically being blown by the weather. Any meteorologist care to comment? As a resident of Houston, I'm curious...

Gawd's pretty pissed off at Oklahoma too - interesting he's baking the bible belt no? My neighbors are praying for rain while running their water wells dry filling ponds and watering non-native plants with millions of gallons of ground water. Didn't the bible say something like "Oh ye of little faith"?

I'm surrounded by water wasting fukwits. Got many of those those in Texas Minor?

Well, it was just recently that they started water rationing, of course there is me and my pool. I'm guarding my water closely... ;) I just wish I could cut down on the evaporation rate.

Read about Houston Water Restrictions.

What is interesting is seeing the comments at the end of the article you posted. Some folks semm to feel entitled to water lawns and such. And it also seems, from the comments, that city government is not enforcing water restrictions on businesses and commercial users watering their landscaping?

OKC's water restrictions are a joke:

Hand watering with a hose is allowed every day.

Rationing does not apply to those on well water.

Golf courses using city water can water greens, but are not allowed to water fairways.

Other uses of city water are not restricted.

Violators of the rationing rules could be fined up to $167.

We can't have our businesses with dead landscaping now can we? ;)

There are parts of the country prone to flooding and other parts that are prone to drought...

I have always wondered the cost to pipe excess water from the flooding Mississippi river to lake mead. Lake Mead is a major source of water on the west coast. Instead of paying billions to repair flood damage and billions to preserve the water in lake mead and other western reservoirs... why doesn't the federal government undertake a project to move all of the spring overflow of the Mississippi river to those locations?

Because it makes too damned much sense.

It hasn't been nearly as bad here but August has been VERY dry. Today driving back from Nashville I got rained on for less than one minute. What kind of teasing BS is that?
