I went to Italy in April. In the last week, I've gotten 3 letters from AutoEuropa, the Thrify affiliate saying they were charging me 50C (each letter) on my credit card for administration charges dues to driving citations while I was there. But they provided no information about what the citations were about and said a separate authority would contact me with the details. If I was to guess, it would be something to do with a complete stop at red lights, or right on reds, but I don't have a clue. I plan on calling Thrifty this week, but until I get details, I'm going to tell my credit card company to take these charges off my account.

Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

sounds like you know you did something wrong

man up and accept the punishment

this is your nanny state at work Minor. I assume you did not get pulled over but they have cameras that caught you?

or you could just be getting scammed. the delay in getting a notice seems odd but maybe that is due to tracking down who you were since you rented a car?

Actually I don't have a clue. I do remember seeing camera signs on the highway but don't remember speeding. I'll be talking to the rental car company this week.

Are you from Italy? If not, you shouldn't pay anything. I got fined when I was in UK, bad parking, if I remember well it was about 200 pounds. I got mailed by the hiring company and they charged me 60 € due to administrative charges.

I paid only the administrative charges, and that was because a was to young and naive, but nowadays, I'd pay nothing at all. There are no agreements between countries to charge each others fines.

you should check into it. If you don't pay fines in the US, even if it's just parking tickets, eventually they'll come after you with an arrest warrant. Better make sure that if you don't pay them that they wouldn't be looking for you the next time you come into their country.

I'd say if you could afford to go to Italy.... you most likely can afford the fines. Bwahahahahahaha.... ;)

As for your Credit Card.... Call and tell them you lost the card (or it may have been stolen). The Credit Card company should cancel that card and issue you one with new numbers. That way.... if it is some sort of fraudulent activity.... they won't get squat (can't charge to a Credit Card number that doesn't exist) until you get the answers you need to decide if it is legitimate or not.

Good luck!
