Where you actually had to go out to the record store and spend your hard earned money on a physical cd/record/cassette tape?

Yep. I always enjoyed the "thrill of the hunt" as you could call it.

I still enjoy it with DVD and blu ray. :D

ah, yeah! I miss Peaches Records & Tapes. Heck, I met "The Cars" there when they were doing a promo... Yes, it was the early 80's. ;)

It's rather sad.....

With all this SOPA/PIPA stuff, the idea just kinda hit me a few minutes ago. I do miss carrying around my clunky walkman/cd player... I'll go out and peruse the local section and buy physical cds, I'll even support artists who I've downloaded an album and go out and buy the same album because I like the album itself. I think technology is getting the better of us. I saw a program on Travel Channel where Jamaica actually still presses vinyl because it's cheaper than cds and is easily recyclable.

Ah yes... Reminds me of a convo my mom had at a friends 50th... The woman was in her 40s and mom had mentioned a song that came on and she was like "Never heard of them". She was telling me "God I told her my son is 31 and even he knows who The Cars are..."

This thread is retarded. Why would you miss wasting your money. Want a walkman instead of an ipod ? *face palm* I also miss milking my cow in the morning. Instead of buying a carton of milk....

I don't. I much prefer being able to buy the 3 songs out of 15 that are actually good enough to listen to on an album vs. paying for crappy songs I will never listen to. I love not having to switch CD's around in my car while I'm trying to drive. I love not having to spend hours making mixed CD's to listen to of only the good music on my 200 CD's.

i still do that! the only time i buy anything from iTunes is if its a couple songs i want, but dont want to buy the whole album of that artist because im not a fan of much other stuff they've put out. Kind of a waste to buy a whole CD for just a couple of songs. $1 for a song is better. then after i buy the CD, i load it to iTunes and transfer it to my iPhone

Well then I don't feel quite so olde ;)

Plus, you could get cool stuff there too. T-shirts, posters, stickers, post-its, incense, more crap than I can remember....

Oh well..... I can remember the days of old fondly...

I sort of understand the sentiment - I love buying new books, looking for something I think I might like, the thrill of seeing something new by an author I already enjoy, and so on. I can get the nostalgia for CD's being a similar experience and all that.

Still, would I swap back? Hell no! I listen to songs on my iphone on my way to and from work everyday and there's no way I would always remember to change the CD/tape to what I was in the mood for - plus by the end of the day I might be feeling far different. This way, I have my entire music library available, any time.

I think it all stems down to the menality where when it was about the physical product, even if you dubbed tapes from the radio, it felt like it was yours. You didn't have corporate big wigs trying to own your ass because you bought a cd or cassette but thats what they want to do now that digital media is in the fold. You can't even "legally" duplicate something you bought or trasfer a cd onto your computer without possibly by chance being sued for it. I liked when life was simpler.

Don't get me wrong I love my smartphone with mp3 player.....

Dude I don't think recording off the radio is technically legal either, it's just no one's that bothered about cracking down on it :p

Life is simple - don't stand out, don't get caught.
