When I want something really bad (not necessarily a material thing heh..), and someone says ok and that I can have it, I get it twisted around in my head that it's a promise and that this person HAS to do it because they said so. Is it so bad that I hold them to their word? It just frustrates me to no end when someone says they will do something that is really important to me and then they dont do it.

A person's yes should mean yes and their no should mean no. Our word is something that should be important for us to keep. It is a measure of our character. I do not think it is wrong for you to be disappointed in someone when they don't keep their word. If we can't keep our word, there needs to be a legitimate explanation.

Sometimes it is a matter of maturity and age. Other times it is a matter of character or lack there of should I say. When a lack of keeping one's word is coupled with arrogance or selfishness, I normally distance myself quite a bit.

Ahh, but Clare is forgetting a key component in this discussion. She is a "pesterer" when she wants something. You can say 'no' fifteen times, but she will continue to pester and bother you until she gets the answer she wants. Then when you don't keep your end of the bargain, that you only agreed to in the first place because if she asked one more time you were going to slap her, she gets upset :) Rarely do I not keep my end of something that I immediately agree to. Most of the times I "let her down" is when I have only agreed to something after much pestering by her.

My momma used to do that to me alot. Make promises and not keep them. Like when she said she would never get rid of me. *sniffle*

yeah my parents did it a LOT. esp. mom. So now I am like...i dunno i take it too personally when people dont hold up their end of the bargain. And maybe I make them agree to things because i feel that those things are their duty.
