Hey there guys. I'm asking this due to the increasing number of people I see commenting that they use their TV to watch youtube videos or any other kind of media content from the internet, directly in their TV while sitting confortable in their couchs. What do you think? Is that the revival of TV's after so much time being forgetten and replaced with computers?

Share your opinion with the world. :D

It is something that is growing and coming back into fashion, but it certainly will not become the 'norm'. Way too much attention is still pushed towards tablets and whatnot for this.

My opinion may be a bit biased though because I am also a computer lover and would not want to be browsing on my TV.

I will always want to use a computer separate from the TV, however, I do occasionally hook my laptop up to my tv to play movies and online tv shows.

Tablets might be great, but since there is currently limited storage on them I do not see them being a complete replacement for laptops, or desktops for that matter.

As for using the TV as a primary source for browsing, depending on how big you want your monitor, and if you want just anyone seeing what you are browsing, I think most people will stick with something smaller.

I see the opposite happening. I think more and more people will begin using the internet to watch their shows.

I spend more time on the net than Channel watching
they should combine the two and rid out the other

I do see traditional cable, and satellite services, going bye-bye. They have always been overpriced for what they offer.

Yes and no.
If you're talking about using the internet to provide series, movies, videos, then yes, but to surf the internet no, how strange would it be to posting in forums or reading news on your television?

I doubt it. I've used internet through televisions in hotels, and it was a terrible experience. It was worse than browsing the internet with a computer 17 years ago.

If anything, computers and televisions will converge as they already are. It started happening a long time ago with DVR's, which allowed viewers to watch at their convenience instead of whatever time slot a show was in. Now televisions and computer monitors are virtually the same other than size, if that. Apple, Google and other companies are actively developing miniature computers to facilitate streaming videos and a few other features. Or you can use a computer, tablet or phone as a television and stream video from a provider like Apple, Hulu, Amazon or Netflix. Or files can be streamed in a smaller network using Plex. Or just store files locally. With computers, tablets and phones, those are all options.

I'm on that side of things as well. I am not a fan of using my television as a computer. Surfing for videos and such is a different experience over making worksheets. I also dislike reading news on my television. I don't know I think computers might just be ingrained in me.

I really hope not. I don't really have a problem watching Youtube videos or something like that on a TV (I don't see why you would, but hey) but I have a tough time imagining TV screen becoming computer monitors. I don't have an internet connectable TV in all fairness.

From what I've heard:
TV-based web browsing can be easy or awkward, depending on the interface. Maneuvering around a browser using arrow buttons can sap the fun from the experience, and trying to enter words with a remote can lead to intense frustration.
So the solution would be to create an input device that would make browsing easier and that would mean the smart TV now won't be just a TV, it would be a hybrid. A comp-TV or something like that. But considering the extra expensive involved, they I'm thinking people will stick with their old gadgets to browse the net.

No, I think its just a fad of TV's having the option to surf the internet. In a few years TV's wont even have the option anymore. There are plenty of other options to surf the internet already that are more established than internet TV's.

I think people will be able to use TV to surf the internet. I think Samsung has already released a TV that people can watch Youtube videos or something. I wouldn't eliminate this idea because technology has improved over the last 5 years, and will keep improving for years to come.

Why not just use your TV as a computer monitor to enjoy a higher resolution and get a TV tuner so you can watch TV?

I think they will both just somehow meld into each other, after all it's not like both TV and other gadgets are all that different anymore nowadays anyway. The only thing that differentiates a TV from a computer monitor or tablet is that it has basic cable connected to it, but fundamentally it's arguably just a larger monitor or tablet. So yes, I think more people will begin browsing online on the TV as technology for doing so becomes better and more mainstream.

With the lines between TV and internet being blurred daily, I believe it would be the other way around. The introduction of the "Smart TV" is a perfect example of this. Anyone can see that this a computer acting as a TV, but seldom admit it. The idea of TV would remain, but the reality will be much different. Oh by the way, I no longer look at traditional TV, my laptop does the trick and I am planning on getting a "Smart TV" very soon.

Devices like the roku, apple tv, chromecast, etc are becoming more and more popular every day. I think it's only a matter of time before all TV's start coming with all of that built in (my Sony TV has Google TV and wifi already). There are also tons of people who use video game consoles almost exclusively to watch Netflix and Hulu.

While I can only see that sort of thing becoming standard I don't think traditional PC's or laptops are going anywhere anytime soon.

There are alot of televisions that allow you to do that, by one way or the other. What's striking here at the moment is the cable TV services, that provide TV channels, internet & phone as a pack, allowing you to use your internet to browse using your router/TV box to connect and their controls to control the mouse and writing.
