When I was younger and my mother would tell me that my father was a druggy, I imagine him snorting white stuff up the nose and things of that nature, but as I grew older I came to realize that the drug that everybody was referring to him smoking was Marijuana.

For a while, I thought of Marijuana as this hardcore drug, until i finally tried it myself. I have been smoking it on and off - when money allows it - ever since. Through my own experiences I have come to learn that Marijuana really isn't bad like the media depicts. But it is a bit hypocritical for them to ban it when alcohol and tobacco are legal and proven to cause harm, whereas Marijuana isn't.

But it is not about the legality of smoking Marijuana here. I want to know what you think of it morally. Do you think that smoking Weed is wrong?

Absolutely not. I don't think smoking anything is good for you, but I can't even understand why it's illegal, soaking up tax payers dough to incarcerate people over it, yet cigarettes are in every corner store. Actually.. yeah I get it $$$$$

I wouldn't want it as available as cigarettes are.. I wouldn't want to be sharing the roads with someone who is high, but I think the stupidity over it needs to stop. I can't even believe the waste of time and money put into it. BUT.. not much longer now. Our leaders are debating this over a spliff as we speak lol

I think they should legalize it. But More like alcohol. The States should raise it and sell it. No one should be able to grow their own. Tax it very heavily.

It's not dangerous but it can be.

They should legalize it and like Griz said, make it stated owned and a crime to grow your own. Crime would go down (No drug dealers dealing weed) and people can then use it for medicinal uses.

Marijuana is not a big, scary, "hardcore" drug by any means. Like anything it can be abused, but honestly, weed is far less dangerous than alcohol, which is legal. I personally don't drink or do any drugs (besides caffeine :D), but I'd much rather hang out with a bunch of stoned people than with a bunch of drunks.

If you're not hurting anybody, then I don't see how smoking the occasional joint is "immoral" by any means.

No, I don't think it's wrong. It's one of the least addictive drugs (study here) and its toxicity is extremely low (here), and legalizing it would weaken illegal trafficking, bring some money to the country and provide product quality.

I've never done it... but I want to. I don't think it should be illegal. I don't think it's something great for you--- but in moderation I don't see it as bad. There are many many worse things.

Nope. I don't think its wrong. Weed is natural and should be legalized. Same as alcohol and tobacco is now. Regulated, controlled and taxed. The nation would be out of debt in no time!

No, it's not wrong, I believe everyone should do whatever they want/like. Marijuana is so bad as alcohol is, and science already proved that in moderation, marijuana can actually be good for you. In a few years marijuana will be legal, mark my words.

I have never smoked marijuana in my life, but I am open minded enough to not judge people who use it. I am aware of its benefits and disadvantages, and I'm sure the smokers are aware of this, too. I won't judge them and I'm not against its usage as long as no one gets hurt.

I'm one of those rare people that actually utilizes a medicinal marijuana card for its intended purpose, but I try to use it as little as possible (I really dislike the effects of the THC). See, I have this crazy neurological problem in my jaw, and when things perfectly go wrong, I am left in a crying ball of pain on the floor, clutching my head and face. No pharmaceutical drug even touches this pain, and believe me, I tried it all. If you can't break through the cycling neurological feedback loop of agony, it can go on for several torturous hours. I learned just recently that my condition has some of the highest suicide rates among pain syndromes, and if I had to deal with that kind of suffering every day, I can kind of completely understand it.

But one, tiny puff of marijuana? It's done. Absolutely done. Cycle broken! It's not even enough of a dose to get me "high," and I'm finally free of that torture.

So no, I can't say I see Marijuana as a bad thing. :)

Haven't ever tried it, but far as I know it's not as bad. I would compare it to alcohol more than to other harder drugs, but it seems people group the ol' leaf along with crack and such.

Hell, marijuana is so not-bad that it can be medicinal (like in the situation Makeshifter shared).

I don't think it's wrong, alcohol is much scarier in my opinion. The bad rep it gets is just from the wrong people using it in the past getting on the news, I think, which could be said of anything that's ever been labelled as a vice anyway.

I am delighted to come back to this thread and see that people are a lot more informed than they would have been on this subject a few years ago. I love that people are aware of the fact that there are drugs that are perfectly legal and they do a LOT more harm than Marijuana. In my opinion, the reason that they won't give us our freedom when it comes to this is because of money, but then that is venturing down into the politics of it.

To those that told me that Marijuana is dangerous if abused, how so?

Not at all. Well, as they say - everything is okay if in moderation. I guess it's just a matter of finding a stress-buster, although sometimes other people abuse the substance and that's a whole other thing.

Anything can be taken to an extreme. It's wrong to eat so many hot dogs that you become obese and die of a heart attack. Marijuana can be abuse like anything else. The real question to ask is "How dangerous is it?" It doesn't appear to be more dangerous than alcohol. Alcohol appears to be more dangerous. People aren't OD-ing on it. So, I don't see the need for it to be illegal. I don't agree in making laws that control what people decide to do with their bodies. That being said, I don't see myself using marijuana, whether it's legal or not.

Yes, but in my previous question I had meant that do you think that it is wrong to take too much Marijuana, when they have found no harmful effect. I am not talking about smoking it here, because we all know that there are other ways to consume marijuana, and that those ways are far less harmful than the smoking option. A spiritual teacher did say though that drugs are not morally wrong, but they are also not there to be abused, which basically means that people need to have the drug, observe and take what is meant to be taken from the experience and then law low, and then do it again some time after. but what people do is they do the drug constantly, so it losing the effect that it i supposed to have.

I think it should be tolerated rather than made legal. I see nothing wrong with it at all. I smoke it a few times a month and all I do is sit inside chilling with my pals rather than being outside and rowdy if we were drinking.

Is it wrong to smoke marijuana? Marijuana causes memory loss in my opinion. Beside that I think it all depends on the person. Some people really do branch out to other drugs after trying marijuana. Over all, I think it is fine to smoke marijuana. For some people marijuana works as a remedy for any ailments they have or may be feeling. The people who can not handle the effects of marijuana should stay away from it.
