I've always liked John Williams music, especially from the Star Wars and Harry Potter films. I like all of the soundtracks to Harry Potter, actually, even though John Williams only scored the first three. Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hooper, and Alexandre Desplat did the rest of them, but none of them really measured up to Williams' work. That's what got me into Desplat's music, though, so I can appreciate that.

Danny Elfman writes some really good music, especially for Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. But I think it works a lot better with the film than on its own (at least for the most part). Howard Shore's music for the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films are also excellent, and it would probably sound amazing live. I like Hans Zimmer's music, too, but like Elfman's I think it works best in-film than outside.

What does everyone else listen to?

I also enjoy John Williams' themes, especially for Star Wars. My favorite is the Final Battle theme between Obi-Wan and Anakin/Darth Vader in Revenge of the Sith. I also like the Delta Force theme comprised by Alan Silvestri, as it is full of action especially on the side of the heroes. Bloodsport's film scores, composed by Paul Hertzog, are also good, especially in the scenes where Frank Dux trains for the kumite under the tutelage of his master Senzo Tanaka, as well as those with the other fighters.
