serious question.

i know hair falls out all the time but does it happen more so at certain times of the year like a dog would get a summer coat?

i always comb conditioner through my hair when im in a shower and last few days loads of hair has been falling out. Im not concerend about it i have very thick hair and sometimes nothing come out and sometime lots comes out. but it got me thinking. Do humans malt?

I don't actually know. It is by no means beyond the realm of possibility that in some capacity, like all other hair-bearing mammals we go through cycles.

But hair usually falls out because it has been pulled out or has reached its full length.

You mean "molt" hah. I'm thinking, "why would humans turn into beers"? :24: I thought the only form of "molting" we do is peeling after a nasty sun burn? Maybe someone with lupus might lose hair, but that's only if they're in direct sunlight. And I'm pretty sure it only affects the joints. So other than that theory, I have no clue.

Also, stop using your conditioner for a couple weeks. The same thing happened to me while I was pregnant. I was using conditioner every day/ every other day. When I'd stop using the conditioner, I wouldn't lose as much hair. If you aren't already, try taking a woman's multivitamin. That'll help your hair and nails get stronger.

If it continues, I'd see a dermatologist or your gyno.

Thanx zorak. I forget what you study. But I have a feelig it's something science-y. I may be wrong.

I wish, it's a literature degree. :)

On the topic, different races\cultures can usually grow their hair to different lengths. For example, Indian Hindu's and sikh's have the ability to grow their hair way down below their arse. While us northern hemisphere Christian's find that once down below the shoulder, hair starts to fall out - giving the apperance of 'hair that doesn't grow any further'.

Similarly, I'd imagine a number of tribes of Native American's possess the ability to grow their hair to extreme lengths. It is of no coincidence also that young girls find it easy to grow very long hair, an ability that diminishes with age.

You lose something like 500-1000 hairs a day.

If you run your hands through you hair, or brush it, you're getting rid of the extras. If you only brushed it in the morning and then showered at night, more will come out. If you brush it right before you shower, less will come out.

It might also make a difference if you've pulled your hair back or not.

I don't think more comes out at different times of the year. But I think, depending on what you did with your hair the day before will affect how much you lose when you shower and wash your hair.

I hate the feeling of hair sliding down me in my shower...UGH
