Police spend more money protecting Tony Blair than Prime Minister Gordon Brown, it was revealed yesterday.
A Scotland Yard source said the cost of keeping him safe has escalated since he became Special Envoy to the Middle East.
Looking after Mr Brown will cost about £1.5million a year - the same as Mr Blair when he was PM. But the bill for guarding Mr Blair is expected to top the £2million mark this year.
A source said: "He is still at the highest risk level because he is seen as the man who took Britain into Afghanistan and Iraq.
