A disturbing trend of self-bullying online is emerging. Is this a cry for help or dangerous attention-seeking?

Have you ever seen someone post negatively about themselves online?

I think it’s often a cry for help, rooted in low self-esteem, depression, or a need for validation. This behavior reflects deeper mental health struggles and the pressures of social media.

I agree that this kind of behavior often signals underlying issues like low self-esteem or depression. Social media amplifies the need for validation, making it both a coping mechanism and a call for support. Recognizing this helps us respond with empathy and care.

Today, money has become more important that anything, and to make money on social media, you need attention. Young people are so desperate for attention that they are posting mean content. The problem with this generation is they don't listen to advice.

That's probably their self confidence hitting the lowest of the low. And if care is not taken, feelings of low self worth and depression might set in.

I agree with you regarding the plight to gain attention.

due to lack of self-esteem and self-love, I still think it is normal to think things like that in adolescence, it has happened to me a lot, then you grow up and understand that no one is perfect and that many "defects" that you have you can correct and they will go away.
