Anathelia vs. PurpleDove

Adoption and Same-Sex Couples

The issue of adoption for same-sex couples is something that has come to the forefront of society due to the public debate of gay rights. Proponents of this issue say that society is changing and that the traditional family isn't the only acceptable option. With the growing number of single-parent families, it would actually be a good thing for children to have two parents, regardless of their sex. Those that oppose this issue say that the traditional family is something that society should hold onto. They also use the argument that same-sex couples wouldn't naturally be able to have children on their own, so that makes them unfit to raise children together.

Should same-sex couples be allowed to adopt children?

There will be three rounds, the first two will be limited to 350 words each, and the third round will allow 400 words. There will be no editing of your post allowed, unless it is approved by me, and only before your opponent has their chance to respond. You will have 24 hours from the conclusion of each post in order to post your response.

I would request that nobody, other than the participants, post in this thread until the conclusion of the debate.

I used a random number generator to determine who would lead off the debate.

Ana, you're up first once again...

I am fully in support of the idea that same-sex couples should be allowed to adopt children. In today's society, there's no reason to disallow an adoption based solely on the fact that the parents are homosexual. Plenty of happy, healthy, well-adjusted children have come from homes where their parents were of the same sex. Will the child have questions growing up? Absolutely, but what adopted child doesn't at some point?

I think there's absolutely nothing wrong with two people of the same sex in a legally bound relationship filing for and completing an adoption. There are millions of children in the adoption system who are in need of a home and a family. Why should we deny that to them because we aren't comfortable with the idea of two women or two men raising a child together?

Some really very personal matter just transpired ( can't say at forum) and am not able to continue with the debate.

YES, I accept defeat....

Good luck on the semi-finals Ana ;)
