As you know, I'm totally opposed to the death penalty but from what I've seen and read, hanging is the most humane form of execution, something which Britain's executioner for half a century Albert Pierpoint said too.

Not necessarily though. If the neck snapping doesnt kill them immediately...they are left dangling with excruciating pain. Though I dont know what would be most humane...i dont think hanging would be it.

Depends how good the executioner is, if they are trained properly and an expert at it like Pierpoint was at it. Pierpoint actually went over to Germany after WWII to execute war criminals there and was appalled by the American executions which were performed by executioners with little to no training.

OH ok I understand now better. I agree with you in that case. Though there never can be guarentees with any choice/style of execution

Pierrepoint executed 450 people in his life without any mistakes. I agree with Debbie though. Interesting to note that Pierrepoint was against the death penalty too. He wrote in his autobiography

"I have come to the conclusion that executions solve nothing, and are only an antiquated relic of a primitive desire for revenge which takes the easy way and hands over the responsibility for revenge to other people...The trouble with the death penalty has always been that nobody wanted it for everybody, but everybody differed about who should get off."
