I love my iPhone 4 for a lot of reasons, but the email system is not one of them. I fucking hate it. My Gmail account takes 15 minutes to push new emails to the home screen, and to manually check drains battery and wastes my precious time. My boyfriend and I email 100+ times per day, so it's a huge pain in the ass.

Naturally, I set up MS Exchange for my Gmail account and was happy as a pig in shit for a good few weeks, then suddenly 2 weeks ago it starts saying my password is wrong. "Cannot get mail" and "Password Incorrect". The password is correct. I even created a new Gmail account in case.

I went through tons of google searches and did a million "fixes" but nothing worked until I changed something in the doman/username field. All was well for another two weeks and it's doing it again! I have no idea what to do.

It's like pulling teeth to get email on this iPhone. Anyone know about this?

I wish I could text him instead, but he doesn't have a phone with a good texting plan. We do skype sometimes when he's home (until skype freezes, as it loves to do), but email is sort of the go-to method for us.

Luckily I got it to stop for now by changing my password to something longer, but given all of the chaotic "help!" posts online I suspect it will happen again.

Pushing wastes more battery than manual checks I thought.

Personally, I've found the email on the iPhone extremely good.

I use msexchange for some of my email accounts. I have a lot of experience with msexchange server settings, I do it at work, so maybe I could help if you gave me a bit more info? Although I've never run msexchange for gmail myself.

You're right, it does. I got mixed up there.

I think I am so used to the email I had on my Blackberry, I got annoyed with the push settings. Give me my email NOW! Lol

There are a lot tricks I've seen online regarding this issue, and I've tried them...seems everyone has a different fix. I delete the account on the phone, turn the phone off, I got a new Gmail account lol, and entered the username including @gmail.com and not just the name. I use m.google.com and it works as the server.

It's so weird because it pops up that error message suddenly, without changes made. Seems like a bug, and it happens on iPads as well. Luckily, this time all I had to do was change my Gmail password to more characters instead of 6, someone said that worked for them so I tried it.

My old Gmail account worked on that phone for a few works and it's password was much longer than 6 characters, so I'm not quite sure what's causing this.

set your email to only download headers from past 1 to 3 days
you can trash the ones you dont want and download the ones you do on the fly
saves space and time

I have to ask... do you access your gmail on your phone with pop3 or imap?

an easy way to tell... If you read an email on your iphone, when you go to your computer, does it show that it was read or unread?
If it shows up as read, then you are accessing gmail through imap. Otherwise you are using the pop3 way.

Hmm. The only time I've noticed this is when I use gmail on my PC, and have a new message on the PC and on the iPhone, when I read the email on the PC the message shows as read on the phone.

Same principle in reverse? lol
I'm admittedly horrible with this stuff.

No it's not the same.

When you set up the gmail account on your iphone, did you use the gmail button in the menu?

If you did, then you are using the pop3 method.

Try to use the imap method... it's MUCH more reliable

Using Google anything on an iPhone, Face palm. Actually kind of funny, really. I hear iPhones are good if you throw them at people, hard. :p

No, I used MS Exchange because I saw that it sends emails directly that way. I will look at the video when I get a chance, thank you.

I really wanted a Droid, but I hated the phones. My hands are tiny, and I couldn't really get a good grip on some of these tablet sized Droids...the interfaces would stick...I was really sold by how smooth the iPhone navigated. Other than this email issue I've enjoyed the iPhone but ya, I have to use gmail :p
