Like I said it's crappy. I shot it through the livingroom window and it was kinda raining / sunny. They came back about two weeks ago but have been very skeered to approach the feeders. This one one of the rare moments a day or two ago. The good news is they have been at it all day today so I'll be trying to get a better shot than I did last year. Wish me luck.

This is from the other day....

This is last years attempt. My goal this year is to stop the wings. :eek

Seems like the first one was behind a window, the second one is good
LOL...go back and read his post. :p

Seriously, though, I really like the 2nd picture. The first one would, of course, be better if it wasn't from behind the window like you said...but it's a good shot. Hope you attempt again. ;)

I am sure there are plenty of time for capturing humming birds like that, I think that you have to place the bait bit better imo

Both are good Guy. What's not to like about them.

Well neither are very sharp for one thing. Secondly, the feeder is in the first shot blocking most of the bird. That has to go. Third thing.. with the wings being blurred it shows motion but I really want to stop them in flight

LOL...go back and read his post. :p
Seconded.........

I will try it again. Last year I spent numerous hours getting the shot I did. It got kind of humorous because I had to do it from within my car with the tripod mounted just outside the window. I had my shutter release cable leading into the car. I'd take a shot and they split. I'd get out and review the shot, reconfigure, crawl in the car and try it again. Very frustrating. Usually hummers will become used to people and feed while your nearby but these guys are abnormal. If they see a person, even through the window they vamoose.

I have two feeders set up this year. The one by the window and one about 25' from the house. They are using both now so hopefully it will work. My yard is very shaded so natural sunlight is hard to get. That might not be to much of an issue because it's the flash that stops the wings. Not shutter speed as most think. In any event it's a real challenge but loads of fun at the same time. Also, these guys are very small even for hummingbirds. They are somewhere between 2 - 2 1/2" from tip of the beak to the tip of the tail and talk about speed. WOW!

Something else would really help me a lot and that would be a remote. It's on my list as something to buy very soon.

That would be awesome to see hummingbirds out of my window!

They are quite fun to watch. They will fly up to the window and look inside just to see what's going on. Later in the year when the young fledge the parents show them where the feeder is and the fight is on. They are very aggressive and want to be the only bird at the feeder. For a tiny bird they sure make a racket.

Those are pretty good. i have trouble taking pictures of ours. They keep their distance when I break out the camera.

Yeah I agree with you there, with the flash on, it does help freeze the moment, but you can get alsorts of craziness with flash :)

Oh I know that. The problem with the flash and the way I have to shoot hummers it's very time consuming and my results haven't been all that great. First you take a a shot, check it, change settings, try again. Over and over. Frusterating yet a lot of fun RIGHT! Fun... ya that's the ticket.

Yup, that what makes photography so great, when it comes out right at the right point :)
