Ugh. Know what you're good at! Have any of you heard a band cover a song that was just plain awful? I'm not talking mainstream bands, I'm talking bands in your area or in your state... I walked in to the club last night... There's a Blues Club that have bands play and in the basement is the dance club... I start to walk in to the club and I heard the most God awful rendition of Lovely Day by Bill Withers EVER and I haven't heard anyone cover the song until now. It sounded like a white guy with a bluegrass rock voice trying to sing soul music. I'm glad I went straight downstairs.

Covers are only good when sung in lounge singer style...

Seriously though, I rarely have a problem with local bands doing a horrible cover. Maybe it's the whole appreciation for the struggling artist thing, but I tend to give them more levity in this area than I would a main stream band...

For example I cannot stand The Shiny Toy Guns version of Major Tom....

Of course a many years ago, I did hear a beach bar band slaughter "Wonderful Tonight", I coulda smacked the singer.

Typically I hate cover songs. Bands in random bars in town I never figure are going to be too good anyway so my hopes aren't that high when I go in.

I've only seen one cover band do a decent job. I really wish I could remember their name, cause I wouldn't mind seeing them again. They did a fantastic version of "Super Bon Bon". :thumbup

I heard an awful cover of Rihanna's "Umbrella", not that that song was ever remotely good in the first place. But seriously, it was just people shouting moronically over a mess of instruments being banged totally out of time with each other.. Terrible

I've heard the McFly and Manic Street Preachers versions. I like McFly's (my daughters brainwashed me) it's just fun. Manics is a lil too far toward morose!
