I have Windows 7 and when I go on Facebook sometimes I get this pop up at the top of the screen saying Compatibility View had to refresh the page or something like that. Then yesterday IE opened a page that said Compatibility View but it freaked me out so I closed it. Does anyone know what this Compatibility View means or is all about? Thanks!

To put it simply, IE8 changes things somewhat in terms of how web pages are displayed and brings things more in line with "standards".

The compatibility mode / view is there just to make things work like they do in IE7.

Only need to really use it if a site you remembered working and looking ok before - suddenly doesn't look or work right in IE8.

Turn it off and get firefox or chrome or safari :)
I like IE and I have Firefox but I'm having issues with it cuz everytime I update it it says my flash is not up to date yet it is. I only have FF as a backup browser in case IE craps out on me. :)

It must be turned on - if it doesn't need to be, e.g. most sites should display ok in IE8.

To turn it off (can be turned on still for specific sites if any present problems)- click on 'Tools' then click 'Compatibility View Settings'.

Should see this:

Uncheck the last option and close it.

So I don't need Compatibility View siph?

If a site displays ok without it on - then no.

If a site doesn't display ok that you remember displaying ok prior to Windows 7 and IE8 - then for that site click "Tools" and then "Compatibility View" (rather than the second settings option) - that will turn it on just for that site.
