I'm not surprised to see Georgia and Notre Dame get dropped from both polls; but I was somewhat surprised to see Auburn get dropped from the USA Today Poll. I'm sure we're going to see Boise continue to drop in the rankings even if they keep winning... which is pathetic. They already went from 4 to 5 in the USA Today poll, and I'd expect that trend to continue.

I don't know that I'm surprised to see Auburn dropped. They had a lot of trouble w/ an unranked team and barely pulled out of the hole they were in. Definitely not surprised at Georgia. :( I have faith that we will come back and have a good season, dammit!!!

I'm not surprised to see Auburn fall. They were damn lucky to beat Utah State at home and Miss St is gonna hand them their asses this Saturday.

Me neither. Did they even score an offensive TD against Central Florida in that bowl game? Then they are pre-season top 20?

I've come a looooooooong way in what I know about football, but all that ranking stuff is way down on my list of things I need to learn. I don't know how they come up w/ it pre-season but I was surprised to see we were ranked this year.

Preseason polls are based on a combination of performance and talent from the previous year, perceived talent for the incoming year, and a program's supposed "prestige".... that's also combined with the talent that the program lost the previous year and how they're expected to perform based on all of those factors. Schools from the BCS Automatic Qualifier conferences are given a higher weighting because they're supposedly overall better programs than non-AQs. The AQ conferences are the SEC, B1G (Big Ten plus two), Pac-12, Big-12 (minus two, soon to be three), ACC, and Big East. There are exceptions to this rule, in Boise State and TCU (both of whom had high rankings because of their history of high performance as well as the other factors).

Ultimately though, the human polls are totally and completely subjective as to how the individual voters feel about any given program. For example, Georgia still received votes to remain in the Top 25 this week, despite being 0-2; meanwhile if my Bulldogs had beaten Nebraska (like we should have -.-), chances are we still wouldn't have gotten any votes to make the Top 25.

Auburn fell out of the poll in week 2. Climbed back in this week. 2-0 with another tough game this weekend. First road game makes me nervous.

I think the only reason you guys pulled that game out was horrible offensive playcalling on the part of Mississippi State. They didn't seem to realize that they could run the ball straight down your throats until it was way too late... who knows why that was the case. I would most definitely be scared after that game, and especially the near-loss to Utah State.

Ahhh, okay. That's pretty much what I assumed. I've come a long way in the past 10 years. 10 years ago when my mother tried to explain to me what a running back was I looked at her puzzled and said "but they're ALL running!!!" :24: No doubt UGA has the popular vote...and there is some promising talent this year...but I'll be damned if we're putting it all to use!!!
