for one of my classes, the instructor has this part of the assignment to complete..

12. Create a query that will update all the records back into the "Action Query Practice" table. I want this to be an append query. Call the query "12 Append Query"

yet, if i want it to update something, im not appending shit. appending means adding to something, whereas updating means changing something.

well if you are updating, you could be adding something as well as changing something else. like you add a pic and change a link on a page for instance.

hmm your right that really deosnt make much sense...but maybe by append, they mean for you to append the database table by adding a new row? hmm maybe email your teacher for clarification?
